Hear The Earth
Trouble Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Scarcely breathing silence
Slowly running out of patience
I know that you want her only
So obscured and lonely

Hear the earth and feel the sun
Who is the unfortunate one
Appearances, all it ever seemed
No inspiration never dreamed
Dripping tears all over my head
Changing places with the dead

Hear the earth and feel the sun
Who is the unfortunate one

Scarcely breathing silence
Ordinary day existence
I know that you want her only
So obscured and lonely

Hear the earth and feel the sun
Who is the unfortunate one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hear the Earth" by Trouble are fraught with feelings of sadness, loneliness, and despair. The first few lines of the song paint a vivid picture of a person who is struggling to keep it together, as they feel themselves slowly losing patience and barely managing to breathe. The singer knows that their lover is only interested in someone else, and they feel completely alone and abandoned. The line "So obscured and lonely" perfectly captures the sense of isolation and despair that the singer is feeling.

The chorus of the song changes things up a bit, reminding us to "hear the earth and feel the sun." The singer seems to be imploring us to pay attention to the natural world around us and to recognize that even in our darkest moments, there is still beauty and life to be found. But the final line of the chorus, "Who is the unfortunate one," brings us back to the theme of sadness and loneliness that permeates the entire song.

The final verse of the song is a continuation of the first, with the singer once again describing their feeling of being trapped in an ordinary existence and watching as their lover is drawn away from them. The line "Changing places with the dead" is particularly poignant, suggesting that the singer feels like they are already dead themselves and that their lover is slowly killing them.

Overall, "Hear the Earth" is a deeply emotional and melancholic song that speaks to the human experience of heartbreak and loss. The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness and loneliness that is so raw and real that it is impossible not to be moved by them.
