The Good Side

Left you with both of the rings
My fingers danced and swayed in the breeze
The change in the wind took you down to your knees
I got the good side of you
Sent it out into the blue
The people danced to the sound of your heart
The world sang along to it falling apart
But I sympathize, and I recognize
And baby, I apologize
That I got the good side
The good side of things
I got the good side of life (good side of life)
Traveled the universe twice (the universe twice)
So many thoughts I wanted to share
But I didn't call 'cause it wouldn't be fair
Then I got the good side of new
Found arms to fall right into
I know how it looked, it wasn't the plan
And some day I hope that you'll understand
I sympathize, and I recognize
And baby, I apologize
That I got the good side
The good side of things
I'm sure we'll meet in the spring
And catch up on everything
I'll say I'm proud of all that you've done
You taught me the ropes, and you taught me to love
But I sympathize, and I recognize
And baby, I apologize
That I got the good side
The good side of things
Sympathize, recognize
Apologize
That I got the good side
The good side of things
"The Good Side" by Troye Sivan is a song that explores the aftermath of a breakup where the singer has moved on and found happiness with someone else, leaving their ex-partner behind. In the first verse of the song, Sivan reveals that he has ended the relationship and taken the "good side of things" while his ex-partner is left with the "rings." He also acknowledges that the breakup has been difficult for them, as symbolized by the change in the wind that "took you down to your knees." However, despite this, he has now found happiness with someone else, and his new relationship has been celebrated by others.
In the second verse, Sivan reflects on his new life and how he has "traveled the universe twice" and had many experiences he wanted to share with his ex-partner but didn't because it wouldn't be fair. He also acknowledges that his new relationship wasn't planned and that he hopes his ex-partner will one day understand. The song ends on a hopeful note, with Sivan saying that he hopes to catch up with his ex-partner in the spring and that he is proud of all they have achieved.
The song addresses the complex emotions that arise from a breakup, including guilt, empathy, and the desire to move on. The lyrics are emotive and compelling, and the chorus's repetition of the phrase "I got the good side" highlights the power imbalance that often exists in a breakup.

At last a song about a break-up, where there's no name-calling, no hard feelings, no bitching...Just pure sentiment, nostalgia and best wishes for the future...

this song has a somber tone but behind the sadness it’s hopeful. it shows that even in the worst situations, you can always see the good side.
@aidandoyle3570
