Bike
Ty Segall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things
I've got a cloak, it's a bit of a joke
There's a tear up the front, it's red and black
I've had it for months
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things

I know a mouse and he hasn't got a house
I don't know why I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things

I've got a clan of gingerbread men
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men
Take a couple if you wish, they're on the dish

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things

I know a room of musical tunes

Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork
Let's go into the other room and make them work

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ty Segall's song "Bike" are both nonsensical and whimsical, featuring a series of disconnected images and ideas. The first verse introduces the notion of a bike that the singer has borrowed but would like to give away to a girl who fits in with his world. The second verse describes a red and black cloak that the singer has had for months and wonders if it could look good on the girl. The third verse introduces a mouse named Gerald and the fourth describes a clan of gingerbread men that the singer invites the girl to take. The final verse mentions a room of musical tunes that the singer wants to make work with the girl.

The lyrics seem to be a series of random thoughts, without a clear narrative or meaning. However, they do convey a sense of playful imagination and a willingness to share with others. The singer seems eager to give away his possessions and invite the girl into his world of oddities and curiosities. It's possible that the song is meant to be a celebration of the joy and wonder of childhood, where even the most mundane objects can hold a sense of magic and mystery.

I was listening to this song on my laptop and suddenly recognised the lyrics and nearly flipped off my chair. LOVE Pink Floyd! & Ty Segall!

Althought im not a big fan of this cover, I love the fact that Ty Segall chose this song to cover. Come on now, who else is playing Barret-era floyd tunes?! I love the idea of this, but I still like the original better. I sort of feel like that song was always a joke, and thats how Ty treated it.
