See what you're saying is, you know I love you too, it's not like that
Aah-hoo, aah-hoo, aah-hoo
I got a favorite one, I got a favorite one, you know, oh, lovely one
I got a favorite one, I got a favorite one, you know, oh, lovely one
See what you're saying is, you know I'm never true, it's not like that
Aah-hoo, aah-hoo, aah-hoo
I got a favorite one, I got a favorite one, you know, oh, lovely one
I got a favorite one, I got a favorite one, you know, oh, lovely one
The lyrics of "Lovely One" seem to be about the confusion and mixed messages in a relationship. The chorus seems to suggest that the singer (presumably Ty Segall himself) has a "favorite one" - perhaps a favorite person - but that this doesn't translate into being "true" or faithful. The repetition of the lines "See what you're saying is, you know I'm never true, it's not like that" and "See what you're saying is, you know I love you too, it's not like that" could suggest that the person with whom he is speaking is accusing him of being unfaithful or dishonest. However, the fact that he repeats "you know I love you too" suggests that he is trying to convince this person that he does care for them, even if he isn't always reliable.
The "aah-hoo" sounds that punctuate the song seem to be there simply for effect, adding to the dreamy, almost ethereal quality of the song. Overall, "Lovely One" is a catchy, upbeat song with a fairly simple message: that relationships can be messy and complicated, with people saying one thing and meaning another. However, despite this confusion, the singer still seems to care for the person with whom he is in the relationship.
