Mr. Face

They say it will burn the way up
We'll burn
Burn up
I'll burn up, the way up
Mr. Face sits right down
He closes up his shop, he shuts it down
Shuts
He shuts it down
Open the books
See what you got
It doesn't look like you've got a lot
You need the money to be a man
You need the money, don't they understand?
Go to the shop
Don't stop
Until it drops
And when the sky shines, it'll be alright
And when the sky shines, it'll be alright
And when the sky shines, it'll be alright
And when the sky shines, it'll be alright
The opening lines of "Mr. Face" by Ty Segall appear to be referencing the act of burning or destroying something, possibly as an act of rebellion. The lyrics "Oh, I see the smoke today, oh / They say it will burn the way up / We'll burn / Burn up / I'll burn up, the way up" seem to convey a sense of excitement or anticipation about this destructive act. The line "We'll burn / Burn up / I'll burn up, the way up" could also be interpreted as a call to action, with the singer encouraging others to join in the rebellion and burn everything down.
The second verse of the song focuses on the character of "Mr. Face," who is described as closing up his shop and shutting it down. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for a person or entity giving up or abandoning something important. The repetition of the phrase "he shuts it down" emphasizes the finality of this decision and underscores the sense of loss or disappointment that the singer is feeling.
The third and final verse of the song appears to offer a solution to the problems discussed earlier in the lyrics. The lines "Open the books / See what you got / It doesn't look like you've got a lot / You need the money to be a man / You need the money, don't they understand?" seem to be criticizing a societal expectation that men need to be financially successful in order to be considered "real men." The final lines of the song, "And when the sky shines, it'll be alright," suggest that there is hope for a better future, and that things will eventually work out if people keep working towards their goals and ideals.
