After signing with Epic Records, they released debut album No Pleasantries, produced by Rick Parashar, in 2000. The albums lead singles, "Godless" and "Feel Alive", charted at numbers 5 and 25 respectively on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts. After touring extensively with the likes of Linkin Park, Slipknot, Nickelback, Godsmack and 3 Doors Down, the group went on hiatus in 2002. During that time, Albro, along with other singers, auditioned to become the singer for Velvet Revolver.
In 2004, the group returned, releasing The Heavy, produced by Rick Parashar, on Nitrus Records. Lineup changes followed with both Shirley and Holt departed the group, replaced by bassist Zoltan Bathory and drummer Philippe Mathys while Logan (Deadly Motor Vehicles) was added as the group's second guitarist. During a show, guitarist Weber suffered a seizure and was later diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. The group briefly performed without Weber before eventually going on another hiatus.
In 2005, Bathory left the group to form the successful metal group Five Finger Death Punch while Mathys is currently the drummer for Hydrovibe.
Dust
U.P.O. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can't believe you
I am the ground where you will lie
I am the wind where you will fly
We've lost in a place
Where time is holding a sick, sick pace
We're starting to rust
When it is all over
Try to see your way son
Try to clear your vision
I am the ground where you will lie
I am the wind where you will fly
We're lost in a place
Where a child is holding a sick, sick face
We're starting to rust
When it is all over we all turn back to dust
The lyrics to U.P.O.'s song Dust seem to address the singer's inability to save another person. The repeated phrase "I can't save you" indicates this frustration. The singer seems to be aware of the inevitability of death, expressed through the line "when it is all over, we all turn back to dust". The lyrics suggest that the singer wants to provide guidance to someone younger ("try to see your way son, try to clear your vision"), but acknowledges the difficulty of doing so.
The lines "I am the ground where you will lie, I am the wind where you will fly" are intriguing as they seem to evoke a sense of duality. The ground is often associated with stability, while the wind is associated with movement and change. It seems that the singer is acknowledging that life is full of contrasts and unpredictable circumstances.
This song seems to contemplate the nature of time as well. The line "We've lost in a place where time is holding a sick, sick pace" suggests that the singer feels overwhelmed or trapped by time. The use of the word "lost" in this context also implies a sense of confusion or disorientation.
Overall, the lyrics to Dust explore the uncertainty and inevitability of mortality, while acknowledging the singer's desire to provide guidance and support to others.

I did I’ve this song (and UPO the band) when a kid on my bus brought the “Tattoo the Earth” live CD to school. I immediately conned him into selling or trading me the album…I had it for years until someone stole it (along with about 200 other cds). Then, in a pawnshop I found THIS album, the actual UPO studio album. I had to get it, and wasn’t disappointed. This song had potential to be huge…it’s unfortunate when such awesome artists fall through the cracks.
