I Dont Know Why I Left
U.S. Military Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know something you don't
Have to hide
Why does it
Be this way
Well I know something you
Don't need to hide
Anymore you should see
Oh why
Why does it have to be this way
Oh where do we go
Often we roam
Far from our home alone
Oh where did she go
Imma spirit from the unknown
It's just so subliminal
Can't fuck with this no I feel like I'm no civilian bro
I could just feel like I'm in my mode
I got it all a la mode
I feel like I can't even frequent the dream
I feel that's the way I suppose
I try and get some sleep
I've been counting sheep
I don't understand
What you want from me
All you really have
Do you call it peace
I don't feel I am
What you saw as free
So round and round we go
Down and out we know
Oh I know right
Well I know something you
Don't need to hide
Anymore you should see
Oh why
Why does it have to be this way
Oh where do we go
Often we roam

Far from our home alone
Oh where do we go

Overall Meaning

The U.S. Military's song "I Don't Know Why I Left" seems to be a reflection of a soldier's emotional and psychological struggles. The lyrics depict a sense of discomfort and anxiety, which the singer cannot seem to locate the source of the issue. As the song progresses, the singer's condition worsens, and they begin to feel tired and ultimately sink deeper into a "dark place" where negativity rules. In the end, the singer manages to leave this dark place and feels happy but still fearful of when it might return.

The song's lyrics touch on various issues that could be related to a soldier's experiences, such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. It is evident that the singer is dealing with inner turmoil that they cannot fully explain, and this can be relatable to anyone who has gone through a traumatic experience. The song's ending also suggests that the happiness the singer experiences is temporary, and that they are well aware of it.

Despite being an emotional track, "I Don't Know Why I Left" also manages to depict a sense of resilience and determination. The singer is fighting to overcome whatever is causing their distress, and while it is not easy, they are willing to continue the battle.

Why I quit the USN?
Simple.

1.) I got PNA four times in a row with an MP evaluation and still didn't make rank for E-4
(Rate: DC)

2.) I'll work hard and my COC takes credit for everything making me miss out on medals and ribbons that would give me a good evaluation and extra points towards the exam.
(At that point I was like fuck it.)

3.) There's more money to be made on the outside.

4.) Tired of getting in trouble for other people's fuck ups.
(Damn if you do the right thing and live by the core values. Honor. Courage. Commitment.)

5.) My body, mind and spirit can't handle making the military a career.

I've got tremendous respect for those Sailors that ride the storm until retirement but I'm not one of them.
I'm proud of the military accomplishments that I did do.
I'm glad I served my country but 4 years was plenty for me.

Bro… you are 100% right. I tried going to OCS after getting out last year. I went there… played the game for two weeks… then LEFT voluntarily. I was a gung ho Marine too.

I almost cried leaving the gate of OCS because I realized how valuable freedom is… and I almost volunteered to lose it again. ENJOY CIVDIV. Travel and use the GI.

Never been to the military but I went to trade school when I was 17 to become an electrician. I’m 34 now and working for the power company here in D.C. Been making 150k-200k yr since I was 25.

I salute all military personnel but I agree, trades are heavily slept on.

911BabyGoat

Most definitely! And I’m glad to hear of such a success story.

@911BabyGoat I go down the military content rabbit sometimes and I found your video, all these mass shootings in the U.S. just break my heart and make we want to get into some type of space of helping people.

Think I might try out the National guard since I’m older now 👴🏿and have my career. Lol.

Wish you the best of luck on your path my man and thank you for your service.

I understand. I’m in the army. I got 8 months left bruh. Same stuff in army. Toxic leaders, people run their mouth, people, SOLDIERS, cutting in line. I DID NOT expect this going in. I thought every soldier would have honor and integrity. Very few do. I’m one of them.
