Ready to form another band after a five-year hiatus from music, Hailey went to see Grey perform with Mellowdrone. "I had been waiting to meet someone who had her talent and drive," Hailey says. "After hanging out a couple of times, it was obvious we were a great match." For her part, Grey says she was ready to leave behind session work and focus on a creative collaboration. "I've wanted to write and produce my own music, but was too busy touring as a background performer."
The result of their efforts was the EP I See Red, which was recorded over several months in a bedroom at Grey's Los Angeles home. ("Vocals were done in the bathroom," Hailey says, "it was very sexy.") Produced by Grey and mixed by Al Clay (who has worked with the Pixies, Frank Black, and Blur), I See Red, with its laser-sharp melodies, ethereal harmonies, lush string arrangements, and muscular drums, is a great introduction to the duo.
Less than a year after the release of I See Red, Uh Huh Her will unveil their full-length debut, the accessibly melodic Common Reaction, on August 19th. Produced by Al Clay … it was recorded in January at Clay’s L.A. studio, a world away from Grey’s bathroom …. The effort is an extension of the band’s previous musical foundation, as evidenced by focused tracks like "Not a Love Song," "Wait Another Day" and "Explode."
"We wrote a lot of it before we went in the studio, but we wound up re-cutting everything," Grey says of the 11-track album. "We wanted to make a commercially appealing record. The songs aren't specifically poppy but appeal to a wide variety of people."
"Sometimes the song just calls for it and you can't fight the pop," Hailey laughs. "I like that it's eclectic and not just one thing. That bores me in a record. We never wanted this band to be small."
Common Reaction is now available.
Human Nature

In over your head
You're going crazy
And all the things that you've realized instead
They take their toll
You'd stay the same
But you look up ahead
There's something out there
But reality's worse without him there
It's not human nature
The way he stares right through you
What's he made of?
Staring at the sea, and everything between
As you watch the world fall, you watch the world fall
I think your name
And you show up to save me
This is crazy
And time stands still when I look in your eyes
And they're not cold
You are so dark but at times you are light
Should I be scared now?
Made up my mind
Oh there's something you hide
But I'll stay with you
The song "Human Nature" by Uh Huh Her talks about someone who is struggling to cope with the changes and realizations they have made in their life. The person feels overwhelmed and as if they are losing their mind. They want to stay the same, but they know they can't because there is something out there that is calling to them.
The lyrics suggest that the person is in a complicated relationship. The love they have is a curse, but the reality without them is worse. The person is struggling to come to terms with their feelings for their partner. They know that it's not human nature for someone to stare right through them the way their partner does, but they can't deny their love for them.
The second verse suggests that the person's partner is dark at times, but they also have a light side. The person wonders if they should be scared of their partner, but they have already made up their mind to stay with them. They feel an intense connection with their partner that transcends time and space.
Overall, the song is about the complexities of love and the struggles that come with it. The person is torn between their love for their partner and their fears about the relationship. They know that their partner is not perfect, but they are willing to stay with them despite everything.
