Landing
Up Front Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Falling from the heights you never even knew you were afraid of been blinded by the light you didn't even think you'd ever see have you ever been locked inside an empty room with all the windows left wide open will you be landing on the only space that's being occupied by me listening to everything does wonders for the deaf ones and searching for the open door has got no sense of irony and I love it when the flies all die on windowsills so close to all the air they're falling down like all the rain and raindrops never land on me well what's left for me to say maybe I'll close my eyes and wait for you to do the same and maybe then we'll start to understand it all and we'll fall into everything no one will believe we'll be everything

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Up Front's song "Landing" perfectly encapsulate that moment of feeling lost and uncertain in life. The opening lines, "Falling from the heights you never even knew you were afraid of/ Been blinded by the light you didn't even think you'd ever see" describe a sudden shift in perspective, where the singer finds themselves plummeting from a once-stable position, and waking up to a reality they hadn't expected. The imagery of being "locked inside an empty room with all the windows left wide open" is particularly evocative, as it suggests a sense of entrapment even in the midst of potential freedom.

The chorus is an introspective reflection on the power of listening and the search for meaning. The singer notes that "listening to everything does wonders for the deaf ones," suggesting that paying close attention to the world around us can open up new insights and perspectives. However, the next line, "searching for the open door has got no sense of irony" hints at the frustration that can come with seeking answers. Sometimes, even when we know what we're looking for, it can be difficult to find, leading to a sense of hopelessness.

The final lines of the song offer a glimmer of hope: "maybe then we'll start to understand it all/ and we'll fall into everything no one will believe/ we'll be everything." Here, the singer seems to be suggesting that even in the midst of confusion and uncertainty, there is a possibility for growth and transcendence. By embracing the unknown, we may discover things about ourselves and the world that we never imagined possible.
