In 1990 Usher joined an R&B local quintet called the NuBeginnings, which was organized by local music svengali, Darryl Wheeler and then he decided to pursue a career in music. Aside from recording, Usher has ventured into business. He has established his own record label, US Records, and is a part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise. He has also dabbled in acting, with a recurring role on the teen sitcom Moesha, and roles in the films The Faculty (1998, with Josh Harnett) She's All That (1999, with Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Texas Rangers (2001, with Ashton Kutcher).

Very informative, thanks! Please can you help me understand 2 things...
1. the level after processing does not seem to peak 0db, I'd rather have all my files peak at 0db, is there a way to do that with this program?
2. is the result of the processing written in some audio tag (like title, artist, album, mp3) or is the audio itself modified?

The point of the program is to find an average level so that a library full of songs sounds about the same level as you shuffle through them. If every song was "normalized" to peak at 0dB then each one would be an apparently different loudness because the peak to average ratio is different for each one. mp3Gain sets the playback level in each frame of audio in the file. It does not re-encode the audio. The quality is unaffected and you can reverse it at any time. :)

So Joe if I have my music collection in the OGG audio format as I just converted using a program call sound converter and I then use Banshee media player to listen to the music will my tracks not have the same audio volume because they are in the OGG audio format and not MP3 even though the Banshee media player has a Gain feature in the player itself?

When I do this with a file or eight at a time it goes right but when I do more I get an error message. I got a whole lot of mp3 files and there's a lot of work to do if I have to do this eight at a time. I like the idea of mp3gain. Is there anyone familiar with the error message and what does it mean? Can I continue and ignore the error message or is it better to close the application and restart it?

Post the error message. Usually, you can just drag a whole folder in there and analize it and then change the gain. I've done it with thousands of files at a time. It could very well be that you have some non-standard files in there... Make sure eveything is an mp3 for sure and that you have aacgain and vorbisgain installed. It will choke on other formats. :)

Any chance you are/ever were a Foobar2000 user? That's the one program from Windows I still can't live without. Thankfully works pretty well in WINE. I still need it for when I change sample rates on audio. Have yet to find a sample rate converter in Linux that I like.
