The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I long for the days when this will be played on the radio. Its better than a single song ive heard played on the radio in my whole life.

Damn men! I would never understand if this band didn't stay like that, because they changed so much! B.E.P had absolutely everything to become icons of alternative rap like Common or MF DOOM: They were sponsored by the "Godfather of Gangsta Rap" Easy E (R.I.P), then they went to the label of Jimmy Iovine Interscope (either the label or Dr. Dre worked and where he came out among the best sounds of the 2000s), Preemo made a beat for them, while he is a guy who worked with the greatest like Nas, Rakim, KRS-ONE, D.I.T.C or even Ludacris (which means that even he recognized their potential), all this while even today there are homies that struggle to break through for lack of money. And all for what? To deny the values that animated them, for the love of money! I understand why purists have so much hatred when they see this, I even have the impression that there was an engagement between them and the hip-hop community but that on the day of the wedding, they left the bride on the altar for the money and to please the critics of the culture! And 20 years later, will.i.am wants to come back to conquer the heart of the community by playing the old advice-giving uncle? It doesn't work that way!
And those who are hardcore defenders of THE B.E.P., don't come and say c for the love of electro music because Kanye made it, Snoop made it, even the great J.Dilla (R.I.P) made it, and yet despite everything, their sounds remained hip hop. The B.E.P them have changed and those for the love of mainstream and money!!

These are the songs I'm gonna remember them for. First two albums.

BEP used to be underrated but now i think its good that they get notice by making new songs for the people to hear them..and look now people be noticing there old songs.. isn't that i good thing? people can actually hear them now..

The best part is that BEP were originally brought on by Easy-E's label precisely because they were unlike the major hip-hop bands in the late 90's. Less than a decade after they formed, they ditched their backup singer, pushed everyone besides Will.i.am and Fergie to the background and became commercialized, to the point that their lyrics seriously suffered.
