The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Flavor Of The Weak
Various Artists Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's got her best friend on the phone
She'll wash her hair
His dirty clothes are all he gives to her
And he's got posters on the wall
Of all the girls he wished she was
And he's everything to her
Her boyfriend, he don't know
Anything about her
He's too stoned, Nintendo
I wish that I could make her see
She's just the flavor of the week
It's friday night and she's all alone
He's a million miles away
She's dressed to kill
But the tv's on
He's connected to the sound
And he's got pictures on the wall
Of all the girls he's loved before
And she knows all his favorite songs
Repeat Chorus
Yeah
Her boyfriend, he don't know
Anything about her
He's too stoned, he's too stoned
He's too stoned, he's too stoned
Repeat Chorus
Yeah she's the flavor of the week
She makes me weak
The lyrics of "Flavor of the Weak" by Various Artists delve into the insecurities and unrequited love of a girl who is dating a boy who does not appreciate her. The chorus highlights the fact that this girl's boyfriend neither knows nor cares about her interests or needs, as he is too preoccupied with playing Nintendo and getting high. She, meanwhile, has styled herself to be as appealing as possible towards him, but all her attempts go unnoticed. The verse shows how the boyfriend manipulates and mistreats her. He doesn't give into the relationship, and instead, he uses her for his own pleasure, in turn an objectification.
The song's poignant lyrics and catchy tune give it an element of universality, as many individuals may relate to this experience of unrequited love or being in a relationship that does not value them. The lyrics chronicle how the girl tries to be someone she feels the boy would like, only to realize that she is just the current flavor for him, soon to be replaced by someone else.

How can you not smile, bob your head, and sing along when hearing this? Music like this is why 90s and early 00s kids had smiles on their faces growing up :)

Cos sometimes I need something heavier, chuggier, angrier, deeper, sadder, slower or something else. This is one flavour of ice cream. That's it. Probably vanilla.
