The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.

Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.

Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.

Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.

Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Marvin created this song the year I was born. I come from a family of men who served their country (Great Grandfather, Grandfather, Father, Great Uncles, Uncle and Cousins too). This Christmas and every Christmas, it is my wish for mankind to find peace and embrace love for all people. I think Marvin wanted that too.. at least that's my take away. Marvin, thank you for this musical masterpiece. I play it EVERY Christmas/holiday season. For me, it does what you intended it to do. A beautiful song indeed. Marvin's voice is still as passionate and resonant today as it was when this was recorded. I wish Marvin actually cut an out and out Christmas record. I know he did some Christmas songs but never a full album.

OMG! I love Marvin Gaye even though he is no longer with us in human form. He is here spiritually. He is here with us through his beautiful voice, and his music. This singer just sends me to a paradise in my mind. I smile when I listen to any of his songs. Marvin Gaye will never be forgotten. He will always be loved by his millions of fans worldwide. I had the privilege of meeting his beautiful sister Zeola Gaye when his USPS FOREVER STAMP was released in April 2019 on his would be 80th birthday. Shortly after, he had a USPS POST OFFICE NAMED AFTER HIM. I was there for that great honor for the great Marvin Gaye. An awesome experience I will never forget!!!

Marvin wanted to die, and knew that his father would pull the trigger. His dying words according to his brother Frankie (who held him in his arms), was... "I got what I wanted .... I couldn't do it myself, so I made him do it."

OMG love the animation and it best suits the song in so many ways. I'm 32 years young w/ an old soul and I got introduced to this Motown legend at a very young age and I absolutely love the song and now I want to listen to it every Christmas. He was definitely taken from us way too soon by the hands of his father and he should be haunted all the days of his life because he was in the wrong since he was beating Marvin's mom first of all.

somebody was complaining cause I’m one of the animations of a another song Marvin is laying down in bed and there’s fire all around his room..
she took that as Marvin being in the fire! And didn’t appreciate this and wanted it taken down..

I feel like I'm watching the opening cut scene for some sort of Indie game. Interesting style of animation, I love it! If this was a game, it would probably be one of the ones that don't make much sense unless you purchase all the DLC, and only then can you unlock the "GRAPEVINE" perk which allows you to tag all enemy locations. Also, 10% plus damage on female characters, because, because Marvin Gaye. He was born with the "Lady Killer" perk. Whatever, it's Marvin Gaye! Don't question it !

An underrated Christmas song from Motown, and a rare song about Vietnam prisoners of war. Marvin's voice here is right at that peak in the early 70s.

War is not Merry it's probably why it doesn't get the recognition it should, as beautiful of a song that it is, its a sad song about the realities of war, when Christmas is about peace and love this is the complete opposite but it is why Marvin Gaye is a legend he didnt care and used his voice to speak for those who wouldnt or couldn't.
