The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Various Artists Lyrics

Ya never know what you're gonna feel, oh
Ya never see it comin' suddenly it's real
[Gabriella:]
Oh, never even crossed my mind, no
That I would ever end up here tonight (woah woah oh)
All things change
When you don't expect them to
No one knows
What the future's gonna do
I never even noticed
That you've been there all along
[Chorus - Troy & Gabriella:]
I can't take my eyes off of you
I know you feel the same way too, yeah
I can't take my eyes off of you
All it took . . . Was one look
For a dream come true (yeah yeah yeah oh oh)
[Ryan:]
Yeah, we got a good thing goin' on
[Sharpay:]
Oh, right here is right where we belong
[Both:]
You never really know what you might find out
Now all I see is you and I
You're everything I never knew
That I've been looking for
[Chorus - Ryan & Sharpay:]
I can't take my eyes off of you
I know you feel the same way too, yeah
I can't take my eyes off of you
All it took... was one look
For a dream come true
[All:]
Can't take my eyes off of you
Oh, oh, oh yeah
So let the music play
Can't take my eyes off of you
Yeah, the feeling's getting' stronger
And I never ever felt this way
Alright, I see everything
In your eyes. . . Oh yeah
Alright, something's happening
Cause everyone's around but
You're the only one I see
[Chorus:]
I can't take my eyes off of you (woah oh)
I know you feel the same way too, yeah
I can't take my eyes off of you
All it took... was one look
For a dream come true
can't take my eyes off of you
[All:]
I can't take my eyes off of you
Feelings like I never knew
I can't take my eyes off of you
From the start. . . Got my heart
Yeah, you do
I can't take my eyes off you
The lyrics to "Take My Heart" suggest a feeling of surprise and sudden realization of love. The couple in the song sings about how unexpected their love is and how they had never anticipated it. The first verse, sung by Troy and Gabriella, discuss how love can surprise you, and how you never see it coming. The chorus goes on to suggest that the love between them is mutual and powerful, as they declare their inability to look away from one another. The second verse, sung by Ryan and Sharpay, continues this theme of surprise, but suggests that it's where they belong.
The bridge of the song, sung by all four performers, suggests that the love between the couples is strong and real. The music is described as playing, which could symbolize the rhythm of their hearts or the way their physical surroundings fade away in the presence of their love. The song ends on a powerful note, with a repetition of the chorus, and the declaration that the feeling they have for one another is unlike anything they've ever known before.
Overall, the lyrics suggest a feeling of joyful surprise and a recognition of true love. The song is an ode to the feeling that comes with finding someone who is your perfect match unexpectedly.
