The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I spent a couple nights in the Memphis hood. Thought of Project Pat & everybody. Crowded all night at the shell station, the only place there was, no white people at all zero, no police, the only place was shell station and that was opened all night.
We were the only white folk and absolutely no one was racist towards us, not even the bangers were racist, nobody (you can tell who is bangin and who is just strapped). Dude walks in the gas station w no pockets gym shorts holding his pistol with one hand and an extra long clip in the other hand you know just buying something.
Huge crater in the road so you couldn't drive a car past that point, no road maintenance for years.
Never seen a neighborhood road like that in America. We were walking but if you had a car you couldn't drive it past that.
We walked back in there people hanging out.
Random person hollered out like "this is the real hood take a look you're here in the hood" like we were on a tour.
Saw the usual late-night bad stuff (whores pimps bangers drama ect) BUT saw alot of good stuff too everyone looked happy except the guys that were bangin.
Most everybody didn't bang just hangout have a good time, be happy.
Man you really don't want to be banger.
one's I've come across other places usually get offended at even the mildest comment so I don't mess w them.
We were the only white folk for 2 days straight (only there for 2) BUT NOT ONE person was racist everyone accomadated the situation and everyone was good to us.
Lots of love and good vibes. I love you Memphis!
Even the lady starving to death(looked like dope had starved her) she literally was dying, even she was happy, we got her alot of food, I don't know if she ate it or sold it for dope.
Everybody took care of everybody around there like real community.
Not like everywhere else where people are strangers, here everybody was helping everybody with what they could.
You know the guys living outside would clean cars for people to make bread, do a good job while the cars got gas.
You can't hangout outside in a nice neighborhood like you can out there that's pretty cool, there were perks like FREEDOM!!!
really ain't about how great the place looks it could be the dumpest hood but if you got food, drink, and people you can have good vibes everyday.
People working graveyard shifts driving home late seemed like everybody was working or at least trying to work you know.
Overall hard working good vibes but yes all the dangerous stuff you see on tv was there but nobody wants it to be there it ain't glorified, everyone would rather not have that stuff going on.
So whoever thinks it's cool to be bangin & dangerous & someone to be feared go stay in the hood in the pj's it's really not cool, not even the bangers want to be bangin. Nobody wants that. So if you want to do what the bangers do ...DONT BE A BANGER! that is exactly what they would do if they were you.
Overall good vibes because the people. They in a community and they love and look out for each other not like everywhere else you go where the people you don't know are considered strangers.
Here if you don't know them they still your people & you have a very close connection to them, like family even though you don't know them.
