The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I wanna jam it with you,
We're jamming, jamming
And I hope you like jamming too
Ain't no rules, ain't no vow, we can do it anyhow
I and I will see you through,
'Cos every day we pay the price with a little sacrifice
We're jamming
To think that jamming was a thing of the past,
We're jamming, jamming
And I hope this jam is gonna last
No bullet can stop us now, we neither beg nor will we bow
Neither can be bought or sold.
We all defend the right, JAH JAH children must unite
Your life is worth much more than gold.
We're jamming, jamming
We're jamming in the name of the Lord
We're jamming, jamming
We're jamming right straight from JAH
Holy mount Zion
Holy mount Zion
JAH sitteth in Mount Zion
And rules all Creation
Yeah, we're jamming, jamming
I wanna jam it with you
We're jamming, jamming
I'm jammed, I hope you're jamming too
Jam's about my pride and truth I cannot hide
Too Keep you satisfied.
True love that now exist is the love I can't resist
o jam by my side.
The song Reggae Night by Various Artists is a celebration of music and unity. The lyrics talk about the joy of jamming, which is a term used to describe making music spontaneously and improvising together. The singer wants to share this experience with the listener and hopes that they too will enjoy jamming. There are no rules to jamming, and it can be done in any way, shape, or form. The "I and I" mentioned in the lyrics refers to the Rastafarian belief in the unity of all people and their relationship with God.
The song also has a deeper message about resistance and solidarity. The lyrics assert that no one can stop them from jamming and that they will not bow down to any authority. The singer encourages people to defend their rights and come together as JAH JAH (God's) children to create a better world. The song references Holy Mount Zion, which is a metaphor for the spiritual home of the Rastafarian movement.
