Tainted Love

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night
Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love
Now I know I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
You don't really want any more from me
To make things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way
Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love
Don't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm going to pack my things and go
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love (Ohh)
Touch me baby, tainted love
Touch me baby, tainted love
Tainted love (Ohh)
Tainted love (Ohh)

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of "Tainted Love," the singer expresses the feeling of being trapped in a painful and unfulfilling relationship. The love shared between them only leads to disappointment and doesn't seem to lead anywhere. The pain inflicted by the partner becomes intolerable and causes insomnia. Running away is the only solution to finding peace from the pain.

In the second verse, the singer decides that things cannot be fixed and that the partner's desire for more love from them is not enough. They mention the partner needs someone to hold them tight, but the love being shared is not what they believe in. Love might be a prayer for the partner, but the singer refuses to ask for it that way. They once ran to the partner but now want to run the other way. The tainted love given has caused nothing but disappointment, and they are done with it.

The chorus repeats the phrase "tainted love" as a way of emphasizing the central theme of the song. It highlights the feeling that there is something inherently wrong with the love being shared. In the end, the singer asks the partner not to touch them and admits the love remains even though the hurt is too much. They decide to pack their things and leave due to their need for self-preservation.

This song fits well with the story. It's all about tainted love.

Our Teacher also showed us this
The good part: there's no good part at all or maybe it's hilarious
The bad part: we're going to perform it.Memorizing the song and sing it

She said somewhere they made these videos on a zero budget on their free time, "to make teaching more fun" for their students. I love such devotedness! The videos may be low budget but they are skillfully done and so charming they can compete with most of the 'professional' music videos out there, and I also think she has a charismatic and very versatile voice!

Watched this in middle school and now I’m in college. This video did its job, I mean I’m back here aren’t I? 10 years later and its still a low key banger for a history parody.

I’d love a modem remake with better special effects.

I will NEVER listen to these songs the same! It's so great how you've taught us history in such a fun way. Great job, teachers!

Was just introduced to your site today, and I really like what you're doing with your approach to history. Not sure if you are aware, but one of your lines, "the fact that launched a 1000 ships," is also in Al Stewart's "Helen and Cassandra". In general all of his songs are good, especially his historically based ones.
