Take A Chance On Me
Various Artists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

talking away
I don't know what
I'm to say I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love, OK?

Take on me, (take on me)
Take me on, (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two

So needless to say
I'm odds and ends
I'll be stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK
Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry

Take on me, (take on me)
Take me on, (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two

Oh the things that you say
Is it live or
Just to play my worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
You're shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway

Take on me, (take on me)
Take me on, (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day

I'll be gone (take on me)
In a day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Various Artists' song "Take a Chance on Me" capture the inner thoughts of someone who is trying to express their feelings to another person. The singer admits that they don't quite know what to say, but they're going to say it anyway. They're searching for this person and acknowledging that they may be hesitant, but they're willing to take a chance on love. The repeated lines of "take on me" and "take me on" seem to represent the vulnerability that comes with opening oneself up to love.

The next verse continues this theme of uncertainty and vulnerability. The singer acknowledges that they're not perfect- they're "odds and ends"- and that they may make mistakes along the way. However, they're still willing to take the risk because they're slowly learning that life is okay. They encourage the other person to take a chance with them, and to not be too cautious, as it's better to regret taking a chance than to always wonder what could have been.

The bridge of the song then shifts tone slightly, with the singer questioning whether the things the other person is saying to them are genuine or just a way to distract them from their worries. Despite these doubts, the singer still cherishes their memories of the other person and is willing to pursue them anyway.

Overall, "Take a Chance on Me" is a hopeful and earnest plea for love and connection, with lyrics that speak to the universal struggle of putting oneself out there.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anni-Frid, though was the model. During her EMI Sweden and TV days, 1967-1972, she drew lots of attention for her looks and fit body and started modeling.

Re: vocal talent and stage talent
Anni-Frid is the one that garner's respect from the music community, past and present.

She was identified in grade school her vocal talent.

In 1956 she took to the stage after being elected Children's Day Princess.

She swept the talent hunts.

From 1956-1958 she was on stage performing in lots of charity events. In 1958, she turned pro, age 13, when she became "legal".
She had already earned respect from music pro's and they hired her as soon as possible. Frida at age 13, was making her own way. Fronting bands and orchestras, too include 'Anni-Frid Four' / 'Anni-Frid & Gunnar Trio', 1963-1966.

Frida has won best vocalist awards as a child, pre-teen, teen and adult. In 1964 she won a national level best vocalist award. In 1967, her big break - National Best Vocalist, which she appeared on National TV hours after her win.

She became known nationally for her stage and TV performances.

Re: Agnetha
She actually started her music ambition as a writer. Pre-teen she decided to become a singer.

She became Nationally known, not from stage or vocal awards, but via a record label. She was a record label generated pop star.

In her teens she had fronted a local band. She graduated HS and took a job as a phone operator at a car dealership.

Meantime a record label heard a tape of the band she was with...and Agnetha had a vocal on the same tape. The record label thought she had a nice voice... He contacted her and cut a record.... This is how her pop career started, record label generated and marketed pop star.

In hard times like these, in corona-induced quarantines all over the world, ABBA can cheer us all up!
Here's to ABBA and their timeless music! Let's sing and frolic:
If you change your mind

I'm the first in line

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

If you need me, let me know

Gonna be around

If you've got no place to go

When you're feeling down

If you're all alone

When the pretty birds have flown

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

And it ain't no lie

If you put me to the test

If you let me try

Take a chance on me

That's all I ask of you, honey

Take a chance on me

We can go dancing (oh)

We can go walking (yeah)

As long as we're together (long as we're together)

Listen to some music (oh)

Maybe just talking (yeah)

Get to know you better (get to know you better)

'Cause you know I've got

So much that I wanna do

When I dream I'm alone with you, it's magic

You want me to leave it there

Afraid of a love affair, but I think you know

That I can't let go

If you change your mind

I'm the first in line

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

If you need me, let me know

Gonna be around

If you've got no place to go

When you're feeling down

If you're all alone

When the pretty birds have flown

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

And it ain't no lie

If you put me to the test

If you let me try

Take a chance on me

Come on, give me a break, will you?

Take a chance on me

Oh, you can take your time, baby (oh)

I'm in no hurry (yeah)

Know I'm gonna get you (know I'm gonna get you)

You don't wanna hurt me (oh)

Baby, don't worry (yeah)

I ain't gonna let you (I ain't gonna let you)

Let me tell you now

My love is strong enough

To last when things are rough, it's magic

You say that I waste my time

But I can't get you off my mind, no, I can't let go

'Cause I love you so

If you change your mind

I'm the first in line

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

If you need me, let me know

Gonna be around

If you've got no place to go

If you're feeling down

If you're all alone

When the pretty birds have flown

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

Baby, can't you see?

Gotta put me to the test

Take a chance on me

Take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me

Ba-ba-ba, ba, ba

Ba-ba-ba, ba, ba

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

Baby, can't you see

Gotta put me to the test

Take a chance on me

Take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me

Ba-ba-ba, ba, ba

Ba-ba-ba, ba, ba, ba-ba

Honey, I'm still free

Take a chance on me

Gonna do my very best

Baby, can't you see

Gotta put me to the test

Take a chance on me
