Two months later on January 12th, 1961 "Poetry In Motion" peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart...
Between 1958 and 1965 the Jacksonville, Florida native had twenty-six records on the Top 100 chart; four made the Top 10, the above "Poetry In Motion", "Without You" {#7 in 1961}, "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'" {#3 in 1962}, and "Talk Back Trembling Lips" {#7 in 1963}...

I had my first dance with my girlfriend on this song in 1999 at the Oxford University student ball. She became my wife in 2003 and passed away last year. My final words addressed to her as "my poetry in motion" during the funeral. She will always remind me that cute 25 yr old girl in blue dress that I asked for a dance in 1999.

I'm 21 years old. When I was 3 this was my favourite song, I remember my mam playing this in the cassette player on the way to my grandma's. I knew every word, I entered the karaoke at my big brother's school disco singing this and I won, the headmaster couldn't get over how someone so young knew every word to such an old song. I even remember when I bought with the £10 prize money :) still haven't forgotten a single word of this song

She left such a genuine, heartfelt, eloquent comment retelling a beautiful story from her youth/childhood. One that isn't hard to see means a lot to her, and at least imo, should be cherished and praised. The world could use more of that.
While you just listen to music unnecessarily obnoxiously loud and without even the slightest consideration for others or their inconvenience. For lack of better phrasing, the world could use less of that.

Aside from that, listening to music that loud is just going to fuck up your hearing, random internet stranger dude. I'm not telling you this to sound like an old man, I'm in my mid 20s. I'm telling you this so you can adequately enjoy music for longer, ideally the rest of your life, rather than hit a wall where regardless of how loud it is, you aren't hearing the details you're intended to and thus not even experiencing music the way your favorite artists or bands worked to even achieve sounding a certain way, and it's almost like you're spitting in the face of that imo.

I'm not particularly a fan of this phrase, but "As a musician" I don't even listen to anything over 70dB, except temporarily when I'm in the mastering phase, or when working on sub bass usually, and even then I try to spend as little of time as possible doing it.

My grandparents on both sides always had this kind of music playing in their houses. I'm 30 years old and when I was in school I would sing these songs. The older teachers looked at me with smiles, the other kids looked at me with weired looks and asked what that was.

released 10/31/60...I was 13 yrs.10 mo's..9th grade middle school.We loved the song and heard it all of the time on WLS Chicago AM radio. At lunchtime, we had a half hour break in the gymnasium bleachers and were able to listen to AM radio hits.This song played very often..indeed...what great memories..I will be 75 in three months...and so, this song and those memories are now 61 yrs. old.

I was 13 when my Dad bought a double cassette of 50s and 60s songs and I was mesmerised. I didn't understand how the singers sounded so smooth and natural, and every male singer was singing specifically for me :-)

Even in 2019, this song withstands the tests of time and for good reason. I remember my grandparents playing Tillotson back when I was around 5-6 years old... in 2008. And hearing this song again is a window into my childhood. As much as I do enjoy some songs on my generation, a part of my soul remains with the oldies too!

That's sooooooooooo adorable. I was a teenager and got the words but sang it incorrectly "when he sings....I love every movement" I sang it as I love every moment.....no excuse I was older and should have got it right. Your version is so cute though.

Always loved this song. They used a lot of echo sound in the music back in those days, when recording these songs. But, I think that's a big factor why I've always liked oldies so much. The echo gives it a great sound. Of course, they don't record songs much like that anymore. Even Elvis Presley once observed this, when listening many years later to one of his songs. His exact words were; " There's too much echo, man ! ". But anyway, like I said - I like the echo sound. It gave those recordings an extra oomph to them.

My friends dad was three in ‘60 and he remembers this song being a ht AND many kids around his neighbourhood were singing this! It was one of his favourite song in that year!

I remember this song when it came out in 1960, I was 11 years old, but my Sister was two years older than me. I started listening and buying records in 1958 which I still have the records I bought back then.

Still remember the lyrics! Saw him on tour at my local cinema. Also Del Shannon, Bobby Vee, The Big O. and this group called the Beatles....love late 50s and 60s music. Teenage years. The music scene really kicked off then!! Happy days. :)
