Run
Vendetta Red Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Shoot to kill, she wrapped her legs around my face.
Stripped down when she went down and that's all.
And where is art?
It's in the tears of the retarded children,
When you tell them there's no God.

You'll fall asleep forever,
But never close your eyes.
'Cause every day you're wishing
You could hold her through the night.
She'd have you sing the chorus
Then watch the years go by
But I don't mind.

The meat talks back, divorce my head off of my neck
To dine on hot organs, and that's all.
And where is love?
It's on the blade of this old knife,
Your lover took your life and took off.

"Lay them on the lawn like dead virgins.
Goddess of the grove."

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Vendetta Red's song "Run" are quite cryptic and open to interpretation. The opening lines suggest a sexual encounter where the woman takes control and wraps her legs around his face. The stripping down could be a metaphor for the couple shedding their inhibitions and truly being vulnerable with each other. The line "And where is art?" could refer to the idea that true art is born out of vulnerability and raw emotion. The following line, "It's in the tears of the retarded children, when you tell them there's no God," is perhaps suggesting that true art comes from a place of pain and confusion.

The chorus of the song is melancholic and speaks to the idea of longing for someone who is no longer with you. The imagery of falling asleep forever but never closing your eyes could be seen as a metaphor for death or a feeling of being stuck in a perpetual state of longing. The line "She'd have you sing the chorus then watch the years go by" could suggest that the person you long for has moved on while you are still stuck in this state of longing.

The second verse of the song is even more cryptic, with the mention of meat talking back and the desire to divorce his head from his neck. The line "And where is love? It's on the blade of this old knife, your lover took your life and took off" could suggest a violent end to a relationship. The final lines of "Lay them on the lawn like dead virgins. Goddess of the grove" add to the eerie and unsettling feeling of the song.
