The Great Castration
Vendetta Red Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
"Are there colors in the dreams of the blind?"
He knew the answer when you tore out his eyes,
"Does black count?"
Flaccid the severed member you clench.
Exalted walking carrion stench.
Your scorned lover was a street working wench.
And she whored you.
Rejoice and join the great castration.
Sharpen your knives.
They swarm down a manicured talon flood.
Like frenzied harpies in a rapture of blood.
How comical we used to call you a stud.
Now you're stumpy.
Fervent disciple my unholy desire.
Shriek harmonies in our immaculate choir.
And set these androgynous corpses afire.
Those sexless seraphim are memories.
She won't pick your bones after all.
Your skull took its place upon the wall.
Where her spirit scarred you,
Those maggots are married to you.
Rape
They found her swinging from a pipe
In the basement of the church of Jesus Christ.
We sang rape.
We know whose hands are stained red.
The lyrics of The Great Castration by Vendetta Red can be interpreted as a violent and gruesome revenge fantasy. The song is filled with metaphors and disturbing imagery that paint a picture of a person who has been wronged seeking retribution through emasculation and violence. The first verse sets the tone with the question drawn from a curtain of flies, "Are there colors in the dreams of the blind?", which can be interpreted as a rhetorical question for the victim, "Do you see your fate?" followed by the realization that there is no hope for the victim as they are violently blinded, "Does black count?". Then, the lyrics go on to describe a scene of castration, "Flaccid the severed member you clench", which is believed to be the fate of the person who wronged the singer.
The second verse seems to be the singer rejoicing in the act of violence, "Rejoice and join the great castration. Sharpen your knives." The imagery in this verse is of a swarm of violent creatures attacking the victim, "They swarm down a manicured talon flood. Like frenzied harpies in a rapture of blood." The imagery also suggests that there was a time when the victim was admired, "How comical we used to call you a stud. Now you're stumpy." The chorus of the song, "Rape. They found her swinging from a pipe. In the basement of the church of Jesus Christ. We sang rape. We know whose hands are stained red", suggests that the singer is avenging a rape and that the victim is the rapist.
