Often abbreviated to "Vsnares" – Funk's distinctive style reflects unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid and erratic rhythms. Unpredictable and stimulating, the effect is intense.
Funk's first release was "Greg Hates Car Culture", an EP for the History Of The Future Label, followed by "Salt" for Zhark and "Fuck Canada // Fuck America" with Stunt Rock for CLFST. When Mike Paradinas heard "Greg Hates Car Culture", he immediately signed Funk for Planet µ. Prior to this, he self-released material on cassette tape as early as 1992.
The first Venetian Snares LP on Planet µ "Making Orange Things" (a co-production with Speedranch), dropped in early 2001; following in short order were 5 more releases, all released before the end of 2002. Funk continued recording for a variety of labels, including Hymen, Addict, and Sublight Records, and has also recorded as snares, Snares Man!, BeeSnares, Ventriloquist Snakes, Puff, Last Step and Senetian Vnares.

Venetian Snares Lyrics

They burned the farm, and took the sheep
And Aaron's happy life, had changed forever (Forever)
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
I don't suppose this would interest you, young man?
A drum! My very own drum
Try it out Aaron
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
All the eons of sadness and cruelty and desolation [2x]
All the eons of sadness and cruelty and desolation, and the gore [2x]
The lyrics to Venetian Snares's song Aaron tell a story of a character named Aaron who experiences a tragic event that alters his outlook on life. The opening lines reveal that Aaron's happiness is coming to an end, likely foreshadowing the events to come. The next stanza describes how the farm was burned down and the sheep were taken, leading to a dramatic change in Aaron's life. The repetition of "Aaron's heart was filled with hatred" emphasizes the strong emotions he feels after the devastating loss of his farm and livestock.
The singer then adds a sarcastic comment, asking if this story would interest the listener, hinting at the morbidly curious nature of human beings. The sudden shift in tone comes with the introduction of a drum, which Aaron receives, and immediately tries out. Although this brief moment of happiness seems to offer some relief for Aaron, the next lines repeat the sentiment that his heart was filled with hatred. The final lines of the song bring into focus the idea that Aaron's pain is only one instance in a much larger history of "sadness and cruelty and desolation," capping off the tale with a bleak outlook.
