Often abbreviated to "Vsnares" – Funk's distinctive style reflects unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid and erratic rhythms. Unpredictable and stimulating, the effect is intense.
Funk's first release was "Greg Hates Car Culture", an EP for the History Of The Future Label, followed by "Salt" for Zhark and "Fuck Canada // Fuck America" with Stunt Rock for CLFST. When Mike Paradinas heard "Greg Hates Car Culture", he immediately signed Funk for Planet µ. Prior to this, he self-released material on cassette tape as early as 1992.
The first Venetian Snares LP on Planet µ "Making Orange Things" (a co-production with Speedranch), dropped in early 2001; following in short order were 5 more releases, all released before the end of 2002. Funk continued recording for a variety of labels, including Hymen, Addict, and Sublight Records, and has also recorded as snares, Snares Man!, BeeSnares, Ventriloquist Snakes, Puff, Last Step and Senetian Vnares.
Aaron2
Venetian Snares Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Aaron's happiness was to end...
They burned the farm, and took the sheep,
and Aaron's happy life was changed forever ( forever, forever...)
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
"I don't suppose, THIS would interest you, young man?"
—"A drum! My very own drum."
"Try it out, Aaron!"
Aaron hated people
Aaron's heart was filled with hatred
All the years of sadness and courage had dissipated
All the years of sadness and courage had dissipated on the floor
All the years of sadness and courage had dissipated on the floor
The lyrics to Venetian Snares' song "Aaron2" tell a story of a character named Aaron, whose peaceful life was abruptly destroyed when his farm was burned down and his sheep taken away. This traumatic event fills Aaron's heart with an overwhelming hatred, causing him to distance himself from people altogether. The lyrics suggest that Aaron's only source of happiness comes from music, as he is given a drum of his own. However, even this brief moment of joy is tainted by his hatred, suggesting that Aaron's trauma has irreversibly changed him.
The repetition of certain lines emphasizes the gravity of Aaron's situation, especially when his happy life is said to be "changed forever." The line "All the years of sadness and courage had dissipated on the floor" adds a sense of finality to Aaron's story, suggesting that he has given up on life altogether. Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who has endured immense suffering, and who has been left with a deep sense of anger and resentment.

What a incredible song. The drums are so complex and erratic. But still manage to be great to listen. Hard to imagine that he made this track in just a day.

I guess Aaron's heart must really be filled with hatred in order to make such dissonant and unharmonical music most of the time. Love it.

I'm freaked out by the amount of videos I've liked but then go back later to find the thumbs up is gone. Ah well, I get to like this all over again.

I love the strange dark feeling I get when listening to a good VS track :)

I absolutely love this song, been listening for several months now, it's just one of his more easy relaxing songs, while filled with this strange apprehension throughout.

My name is actually Aaron, and I approve this message. My happiness ended, and I hate people.
