Pavey came to prominence in 2013 season of The Voice Australia. She used Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair / Canticle as her audition piece and immediately wowed both the judges and the audience alike. Pavey released one LP and an EP under her own name, but in August 2015 revealed she would be releasing music under the Vera Blue pseudonym.
Vera Blue's first EP Fingertips was released 13th May 2016 and has so far yielded two singles, Hold and Settle

The song "Lie To Me" is a melancholic ballad about the fear of being vulnerable and being lied to in a relationship. Singer Vera Blue sings about her September skin (perhaps a metaphor for aging and vulnerability) giving in to bitterness that comes from past sins and mistakes she's made (represented by ink). She tries her best to hide this side of her from everyone else, but the person she's with makes her feel worthy of being loved despite her flaws.
In the chorus, Vera Blue asks if the person she's with would lie to her or if she lied, would they lie too? It's almost like she's asking if she can trust this person to be honest with her, or if they'll pretend everything is fine even if it's not. The bridge addresses her fear of being hurt - she's been through so much with this person that she's scared they won't make it through the next chapter. However, despite all this, the person makes her feel like it's okay not to be okay.
Overall, "Lie To Me" is a sad yet vulnerable portrayal of the fear of being hurt and lied to in a relationship, while also celebrating the comfort of being loved despite one's flaws.
