Nothing at all, just a distant hum
There was a being and he lived on his own
He had no one to talk to, and nothing to do
He drew up the plans
and learnt to work with his hands
And a million years passed by and his work it was done
Hope you find it in everything
Everything that you see
Hope you find it in everything
Everything that you see
Hope you find it, hope you find it
Hope you find me in you
So she had built her elaborate home
With it´s ups and it's downs
It´s rains and it´s sun
She decided that her work was done
Time to have fun
And found a game to play
Then as part of the game
She completely forgot where she'd hidden herself
And she spent the rest of her time
Trying to find the parts
Hope you find it in everything
Everything that you see
Hope you find it in everything
Everything that you see
Hope you find it, hope you find it
Hope you find me in you
There was a time when there was nothing at all
Nothing at all, just a distant hum
The lyrics of Vernon J. Price's song "Hide & Seek" paint a story of creation, self-discovery, and the search for meaning within ourselves and the world around us. The song starts with describing a time when there was nothing, just a distant hum, suggesting a state of emptiness and loneliness. However, in this solitary existence, a being emerged and began to create and work with their own hands. Time passes, and the being's work is complete. The being's words express a desire for others to find something meaningful in everything they see, implying a longing for connection and understanding.
The narrative then shifts to a female character who has built a complex and elaborate home for herself. It has its ups and downs, symbolizing the highs and lows of life. Feeling that her work is done, she decides it is time to have fun and engages in a game of hide and seek. However, she becomes so immersed in the game that she forgets where she has hidden herself. The rest of her time is spent trying to find the missing parts of herself, representing the search for self-discovery and identity.
Overall, the lyrics of "Hide & Seek" explore themes of creation, purpose, connection, and the eternal quest for self-understanding.

Dear Ms. R
Greetings
Tthere is a question in the Anthology Book about the danger of a single story.
How does the writer use language and structure to explore identity?
You should support your answer with close reference to the passage, including a brief quotation.
Actually, I didn't understand what meant by identity? Is it cultural identity?
Below is part of the answer, do you think it is a good start?
The writer in her speech takes us chronologically through key time in her life to explore the identity.
Adichie powerfully started recollection of her early life reading western stories” What I read were British and American’s children books”, to express how she is influenced by these books when she started writing “all my characters were white and blue-eyed …”. The writer structured this listing to show monotony uninspiring to describe how deeply she is involved in the details of the characters she read, although she was living in Nigeria with different conditions with the juxtaposition antithesis she used “…. they ate apples….”,” …. we ate mangoes….” She clarifies how she still did not recognize her identity clearly.
Do I understand the question?
Thank you so much.

Would just like to highlight that Vernon Scannell fought in WWII. The poem continues the extended metaphor of the sand and a dark atmosphere. This could be representative of a soldier hiding in his trench, alone, with the enemy soldiers approaching. The sacs in the shed can also be symbolic of the sandbags used in the fortification of trenches as they are reliable at stopping bullets. He exits the "shed" to find out that no one is there, suggesting that the soldiers have moved on, leaving behind an empty, silent surrounding. The aftermath of war is shown through the last few lines where nothing is moving, a lifeless area. This can also portray the destruction and loss of life that occurred in WWII. Hope this makes sense and helps others with ideas for writing analysis paragraphs.

I also like to connect this to Vernon's childhood, he was put through abuse by his father who used to beat him and was rejected by his mother, the first stanza strikes me as his father with the words "prowling" describing the seeker as a predator. And the second stanza, can represent his yearning for someone to find him, despite the fact that they were "prowling" every child still wants the love of their parent, it could also be the rejection of his mother's love, "where are those who seek you?" seems like a question from an innocent child who just wants his parents.

You do not get marked for context, but you could embed it into your analysis
@user-ch6mb5ih3t
Also, at the start, when Scannell writes "Call out. Call loud:", the technique used is media res, where the poem begins in the middle of action.
Excellent analysis video, thank you!
