A little taste
Veronica Swift Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A little taste could hit the spot. A little taste might help a lot.
It may be nice, it may be not. It's a sedation. Good for a sticky situation
A little taste might pave the way. It has been known to save the day.
One little taste might be ok. In my condition, this is a risky proposition.
Why not spare myself a little pain? It couldn't hurt.
Why lock my appetite out in the rain without a shirt?
Who said self denial's all that great? It wasn't me.
Cause I found it often pays to dissipate. One little taste could make a whole lotta difference.

Who knows, maybe it will ease the bite. It never ends.
One taste could help me make it through the night. Good evening friends.
Why let good intentions get my goat, and bring me down.
When I know a great potential antidote. One little taste could change my whole disposition.
A little taste might break the ice and make the nasty seem like nice.

One little taste just once or twice. It's an enhancer, one little taste could be the answer.
And so, it wouldn't be a total waste. Oh, waiter, I think I'll have a little taste. Put it on his tab.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Veronica Swift’s song β€œA Little Taste” discuss the urge to indulge in something that may not necessarily be good for us. The song talks about how sometimes, when we’re feeling down or in a sticky situation, a little taste might help. It could pave the way, save the day, and even change our whole disposition. However, the idea of indulging in something that might be harmful comes with the risk of pain, and the singer of the song questions herself, wondering why she would lock her appetite out in the rain without a shirt. She ponders whether self-denial is worth it, and hones in on the potential benefits of dissipating the tension, even if just a little.

The song’s message speaks to the idea of moderation, and how sometimes a small indulgence, when kept in check, can be beneficial for our wellbeing. The singer’s decision to go for a little taste is not seen as a shameful or regrettable one, but rather as an opportunity to break the ice, make the nasty seem nice and enhance her mood. The line β€œGood for a sticky situation” can also imply that indulging in something can help us get out of tough times or issues that may seem inescapable at first.

This girl is criminally underrated. Such a fantastic voice, i could listen to this album for hours.

I dont think shes underrated, she's just playing a style of music that isn't nearly as popular as all the crap out there today. If she was alive in the 30s/40s/50s she probably would have been as popular as Ella. I feel like shes known and respected to those who matter today in the world of jazz.
