Young began as a concert violinist but moved into the popular music sphere when he joined Ted Fiorito's orchestra. In the mid '30s he moved to Hollywood where he concentrated on film work as well as making a large number of recordings of light music and providing the backing for popular singers including Bing Crosby.
His composer credits include "When I Fall In Love," "Blue Star (The 'Medic' Theme)," "Sweet Sue", "Can't We Talk It Over", "Street Of Dreams", "Love Letters", "My Foolish Heart", "Stella By Starlight", and "I Don't Stand A Ghost Of A Chance With You".
He received 22 Academy Award nominations for his work in film, twice being nominated 4 times in a single year, but did not win during his lifetime. He received his only Oscar posthumously, for his score of Around the World in Eighty Days (1956). His other scores include Golden Boy (1939), For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), Love Letters (1945), Samson and Delilah (1949), The Quiet Man (1952), Scaramouche (1952), and Shane (1953).
Victor Young died in Palm Springs, California at age 57 following a cerebral hemorrhage and stroke.

And when you lock and bolt the door
Just think about out in the cold and dark
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
And sympathy is what we need my friends
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friends
No there's not enough love to go 'round
Now half the world hates the other half
And half the world has all the food
And half the world lies down and quietly starves
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
And sympathy is what we need my friends
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friends
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
No there's not enough love to go 'round
And sympathy is what we need my friends
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friends
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
No there's not enough love to go 'round
In Victor Young's song "Symphony in 4," the lyrics express a powerful message about the lack of love and empathy in the world. The first stanza sets the stage with a metaphor of climbing into bed and locking the door, emphasizing a sense of safety and comfort. However, the lyrics encourage the listener to think about those who are left out in the cold and dark, symbolizing those who are marginalized or neglected. The central theme here is that there is not enough love to go around.
The repeated phrase "And sympathy is what we need my friends" reinforces the idea that empathy and understanding are crucial to overcoming this lack of love. It suggests that by showing sympathy towards others, we can begin to address the societal imbalance. The song hints at a hopeful call to action, urging listeners to recognize that sympathy is necessary to bridge the gap and alleviate the suffering caused by this scarcity of love.
The second stanza delves deeper into the division and inequality that exists in the world. It mentions that half of the world hates the other half, highlighting the discord and animosity that permeate society. The lyrics use the metaphor of food to illustrate the stark contrast between those who have plenty and those who go hungry. This further emphasizes the imbalance and the consequences it causes, as the less fortunate "quietly starve" due to the scarcity of love.
The song's chorus repeats the message of the first stanza, emphasizing the need for sympathy and love. By reiterating that there is not enough love to go around, the lyrics underline the urgency of addressing this issue. The repetition of the chorus throughout the song serves to hammer home the importance of understanding and compassion, urging the listener to consider the impact of their own actions and choices.
Overall, Victor Young's "Symphony in 4" is a poignant song that reflects on the lack of love in the world and the need for sympathy and empathy. Through its evocative metaphors and heartfelt lyrics, the song serves as a reminder to the listener that they have the power to make a difference by showing kindness and compassion to others. It calls for unity and understanding, serving as a powerful commentary on the importance of love in our lives and in society as a whole.

Such a Deep 🌹 Beautiful Song. Love The words that go to it. Nothing Like It. The way it should be.. Beautiful 🌹 Music for this song. 💕💕 When I fall in love
It will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart
It will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment
I can feel that
You feel that way too
Is when I fall in love
With you.
And the moment
I can feel that
You feel that way too
Is when I fall in love
With you. 💘
