All Who Are Thirsty
Vineyard Music Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All who are thirsty
All who are weak
Come to the fountain
Dip your heart in the stream of life
Let the pain and the sorrow
Be washed away
In the waves of his mercy
As deep cries out to deep
(we sing)
Come Lord Jesus come (3x)

Holy Spirit come (3x)
As deep cries out to deep (2x)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Vineyard Music's song "All Who Are Thirsty" speaks to the universal human condition of longing and yearning for something more, for something that can only be satisfied by God Himself - the "fountain" and the "stream of life". The lyrics are a call to all who are feeling weak and thirsty, to come and be refreshed by the living waters of God's mercy. The words express the hope that when one dips their heart in this stream, their pain and sorrow will be washed away. The phrase "As deep cries out to deep" is a metaphor for the depths of our being crying out to the depths of God's love.

The lyrics also express a deep desire for Christ's return as the refrain "Come Lord Jesus come" is repeated three times, along with a call for the Holy Spirit to come. The song is an expression of worship and adoration to God, acknowledging His power to quench the thirst of our souls and bring us to a place of emotional and spiritual healing.

Overall, the song is a powerful reminder of the universal human experience of seeking and longing for something beyond ourselves, and the promise that when we turn to God, He is faithful to meet our deepest needs.

Relax, everything's going to be all right; rest, everything's coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. - Matthew 5:6

It's so strange how the mind works. I used to hate this song because I would hear it all the time as a kid because of the CD my Dad would play all the time. But here I am, coming back to it years later with a nostalgic love for it. I don't really understand it, nor can I explain it, but I actually kind of love this song now.
