Originally called Hu… Read Full Bio ↴Wang Chung is a British new wave musical group.
Originally called Huang Chung which is Chinese for "perfect pitch" (though they later claimed it was the sound a guitar made on American Bandstand), the band formed in 1979. The lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Jack Hues, bassist Nick Feldman, saxophonist David Burnand a.k.a "Hogg" and drummer Darren Costin. Their self-titled debut was released by Arista Records in 1982 after several singles, including the minor post-punk hit "Isn't It About Time We Were On TV". In 1983, after being dropped by Arista and signed to Geffen Records, they changed their name to Wang Chung (at Geffen's suggestion, to make pronunciation easier for English-speakers) and subsequently they released Points on the Curve, which yielded two major hits, "Don't Let Go" and "Dance Hall Days"
In 1986, Costin left the band and Hues and Feldman continued to record. The same year, they had their biggest hits: "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and "Let's Go", both from the album Mosaic. Not long after releasing their final album The Warmer Side of Cool in 1989, Wang Chung disbanded in 1991.
In June 2005, Hues and Feldman reunited as Wang Chung on the reality TV series Hit Me Baby One More Time, performing "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and a cover of "Hot in Herre" by Nelly.
Shortly after, in postings at WangChung.com as well as the band's MySpace site, there was news of a new Wang Chung album being worked on by Hues and Feldman. In an e-mail response from Hues, he said, "We are shooting for a release around the March 2006 time frame and a tour in May. We are not sure who we are touring with yet, maybe Heaven 17 or Devo". Also on the band's MySpace, you can hear new clips such as "Hot In Herre" (The Nelly Cover) and a new song "I Was Abducted by the 80's".
Swing
Wang Chung Lyrics

Baby ben really likes to swing
Baby ben really feels like a king
As the wail of the horns make his body sway
Peggy sue likes to rock and roll
Peggy sue gonna lose control
As electric guitars play all her fears away
Chorus:
You gotta swing down tonight
Swing it real tight
Swing with your baby tonight
You gotta swing down tonight
It's gotta feel right
Swing with your baby tonight
Swing tight with your baby tonight
Swing down, swing down tonight, swing!
Baby ben knows just where it's at
Baby ben wears a pork pie hat
Feeling so cool, he draws his baby in
Peggy sue don't care for no rules
'coz peggy sue is his queen of cool
Locked in the groove they surrender to the swing
Repeat chorus
Swing, swing, swing, swing
Whether it's rock or it's swing
The groove is the thing
Gather the night around you
'coz the world belongs to you
Swing with your baby tonight - swing tight
With your baby tonight
The song "Swing" by Wang Chung is an upbeat and energetic tune that encourages listeners to let loose and dance. The lyrics describe how two individuals, Baby Ben and Peggy Sue, feel when they hear the sounds of horns and electric guitars. For Baby Ben, swinging makes him feel like a king while Peggy Sue loves to rock and roll away her fears. The chorus repeats the sentiment of swinging tight with your baby tonight as the groove is the thing that brings everyone together.
The song's lyrics are quite simple and to the point, conveying a message of enjoying the music and dance. Digging deeper, the song could also be seen as a tribute to the swing revival movement that occurred in the late 90s. The swing revival brought a renewed interest in vintage swing music and dance, and many bands, such as the Brian Setzer Orchestra, incorporated swing sounds into their music. Wang Chung's "Swing" could be seen as a nod to this trend, as the lyrics encourage listeners to swing down tonight and surrender to the groove.
Overall, "Swing" is a fun and upbeat song that encourages listeners to let loose and dance. The swinging rhythm and simple lyrics make it a popular choice for dancing and enjoying good times with friends.
