Just To Be With You
Waters Muddy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On a ship that's made of paper,
Oh yeah, I will sail the seven seas.
Fight a shark with a toothpick,
Crawled home to you on my knees.
There ain't nothin' baby I wouldn't do, sugar,
Oh yeah baby, just to bring you home with me.

I would rise up with the devil,
Oh yeah, I would breathe smoke and fire.
Or say were I on a tightrope,
Walk a canyon on a wire.
Just to kiss your sweet lips, honey,
Oh yeah baby you know you're my desire.

If a shark bought/bite off my leg,
Oh baby and the sea were turned to sand.
Turn my po' self over darlin'
Crawl home to you on my hands.
There ain't nothin' nothin' I wouldn't do baby,
Oh yeah, oh yeah baby, just to be with you.

Give up all of my money,
Whoa, oh baby, I'd sleep right down on the floor.
Call my mother-in-law honey,
Whoa, oh I'd work for you 'til I got sore.

I would do anything for you baby,
Oh yeah, oh yeah, just to get you home once more.

Little Walter’s finest hour. Wind him up and let him go. Awesome.

@mitchellgalinkin7558

My most favorite tune of all time. The band all kill it especially Little Walter.

@53411746

This is among his greatest songs especially if he's willing to "call his mother-in-law honey" just to get his honey back home. Too bad his legacy is mostly appreciated after his death. Rest in peace, Muddy.

@Samati1631

That harmonica... damn

@eric669

As it happened too often with these old recordings the great piano by Otis Spann is so buried in the mix that is almost inaudible. What a shame.

A friend introduced me to the song Tuff Enuf & I found it was just a variation of Just to be with you, the Muddy Waters
I like the video of the Fantastic Thunderbirds but I prefer the harmonica in this song best 😊

On a ship made of paper, I would sail the seven seas. How far is Muddy goin when the bottom of that boat soften up πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@Gwynbuck

This song was written by Bernard Roth - who was he? Roth also wrote 40 days and 40 nights.

@G8GT364CI

Paul Butterfield did a great version of this also on the Original Lost Elektra sessions. Not sure who played harp on this version but I like Butter's playing better on this tune, in fact I like Butterfield's whole version better.
Probably sacrilege what I just wrote, haha!

@chopa2less

Little Walter. Nah this is as good as it gets.
