King of the Beach features a complete rhythm section comprised of Stephen Pope and Billy Hayes, both formerly of the late Jay Reatard's touring band. What you want to say
I didn't care anyway
Sing, to the bottom of the sea
To the bottom of the sea
Darling, just you and me
Say what you want to say
What you want to say
I didn't care anyway
Sing, to the bottom of the sea
The bottom of the sea
Darling, just you and me
I'm gonna lay with my head in the sand (x2)
In the sand (x3)
Down when you want get down
When you want get down
'Cause it's up to you
Sing, to the bottom of the sea
The bottom of the sea
Darling, just you and me
I'm gonna lay with my head in the sand (x2)
In the sand (x16)
The song "In The Sand" by Wavves expresses a lack of concern towards negative comments or criticisms from others. The repeated line "Say what you want to say, what you want to say, I didn't care anyway" suggests that the singer is unbothered by the opinions of others and is instead focused on their own contentment. The imagery of singing "to the bottom of the sea" creates a sense of isolation and escape, as the singer imagines a space where it is just them and their partner. The repetition of the line "I'm gonna lay with my head in the sand" further supports the idea of emotional detachment and a desire to avoid external stressors.
The song captures a certain apathetic attitude that can be relatable for many. It showcases the power of focusing on oneself and not getting caught up in the opinions of others. The image of burying one's head in the sand can also be interpreted as a form of self-preservation and a tactic for avoiding perceived threats.
