The Storm
Wayne Jackson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
N trace remains.
No sciense Tease, no MTV,
no lasting stain.
No sun will rise, on careless skies.
No resurrections will redeem
When the storm will break you,
And scatter youf parade.
the plans you made.
No friends to meet, on busy streets,
no urgency.
No jobs or greed, no mouths to feed,
No families to grieve and grieve
When the storm will break you,
And scatter youf parade.
And the storm will wash away,
the plans you made.
All your certainties could crumble,
In the flicker of an eye
And if we last forever baby,
I hope IΒ΄m the first to die
When the storm will break you,
And scatter youf parade.
And the storm will wash away,
the plans you made.
In Wayne Jackson's song "The Storm," the lyrics paint a picture of a world without permanence, where nothing lasts and no lasting impact is made. The absence of "perfect rhymes" and "lasting stain" suggests a world without poetry, music or art, where nothing can inspire or captivate. The song emphasizes the idea that the storm is unpredictable, it can break you and scatter your parade. The storm represents the force of nature that is indifferent to our existence and can ruin our plans in the blink of an eye.
The stark imagery of "no friends to meet" and "no urgency" suggests a world without connections or purpose, a life without meaning. There are "no jobs or greed" and "no mouths to feed," implying that the basic necessities of life are no longer relevant in the face of the storm. The song does not give any reason or explanation for the storm, but rather emphasizes how it can change us and the world around us. Ultimately, the singer hopes to be the first to die if we "last forever" because he does not want to witness the destruction of everything he holds dear.
