Any Old Time
Webb Pierce Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Any old time you wanna come back home
Write me a line I'm so lonesome since you've gone
I had my chance I played the game unfair
But when you left me sweetheart
I never thought I'd really care

Now that you're gone
I don't know what to do
Won't you please come back
Cause I'm still in love with you

You'll find me here
Like the day you left me alone

Any old time
You wanna come back home

Overall Meaning

Webb Pierce's song "Any Old Time" depicts the pain and longing for a lost love. The singer pleads for their former partner to return, claiming to have not known just how much they cared until after they left. The singer reveals that they had mistreated their partner, having "played the game unfair," and their partner had left them as a result. They now struggle to cope with the loss and plead for their love to return to them.

The song's melancholic melody is further emphasized by the simple acoustic guitar accompaniment, emphasizing the raw emotion in the lyrics. The repetition of the phrase "Any old time" drives home the idea that the singer is always waiting for their love to return, and the simple words and melody leave a haunting and lasting impression.
