The Wednesday Night Heroes started as a high school band, with Luke "the Manimal" Mackinnon on bass and Todd Rocket on the drums. Soon after looking for a vocalist, Luke decided to enlist his brother, Graeme on vocals. Lance "the Impaler" later joined on guitar. The group released two seven inches: first a split with another Canadian punk band The Cleats and No Regrets For Youth both out on Longshot records.
Soon before the bands sophmore debut, Superioty Complex Lance quit the band and Konrad Andrelunas stepped in on guitar. After endless months of touring Todd Rocket soon quit and Jay "Bomber" from the Mad Bomber Society took over on drums.
After two years of endless non-stop touring all over North America they caught the eye of Jake from The Casualties. Upon seeing them live, he took them on tour with his band and quickly signed them to his record company, Charged Records and released their 7" Move To Press in 2005.
In March of 2006 the WNH also caught the eye of the Stern brothers from, Youth Brigade and in late 2006 was signed to their label, BYO records. In June 2007 their third full length LP entitled, Guilty Pleasures will be released on BYO.
The Wednesday Night Heroes are most well known for their highly energetic live shows and humour. This can also be seen in Konrad's and Graeme's side project, Whiz Kidz.
Desperation
Wednesday Night Heroes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With nothing to hold onto
We die & we live
With the walls closing in
I'm not criminal & i'm not giving up
Before your mind's made up...just listen up
You want potential, well I got potential
Livin' my life for me
Livin' my life for me
No matter what they say, no matter what you hear...livin' my life for me
No matter what they preach, they're gonna disappear...livin' my life for me
I'm not criminal & I'm not giving up
Close your mouth & open your ears...lighten the fuck up
You're selling old ways just to make a dollar
It's the mind that makes the man, not the color of his collar
DESPERATION, DESPERATION...today
We're all desperate, we're all desperate
The lyrics of Wednesday Night Heroes' song Desperation seem to convey a sense of hopelessness and despair. It talks about the feeling of having nothing to hold onto, of living and dying with the walls closer and closer. However, the song seems to refuse to give up and instead, it offers the idea of living one's life for themselves. The lyrics suggest that people are selling old ways just to make a buck and that what really makes a person is their mind, not their position or place in society.
The refrain of the song, "I'm not criminal, and I'm not giving up," is a declaration of defiance against the forces that seem to be closing in. The singer of the song seems to be aware that they only have six shots left inside their pistol, but they seem to be determined to make the most of it. The song seems to be an anthem of sorts, urging people to take hold of their lives and to live them to the fullest, in this moment of desperation.
Overall, the song Desperation by Wednesday Night Heroes seems to be about the feeling of hopelessness and despair, but it also seems to offer a solution. The lyrics suggest that people should focus on living their lives for themselves, and not for others. They should choose their own path, and not let the forces of society or the pressure of others dictate their lives.
