Falling Out
Ween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I recall a time when we were lovers
Before you, I hadn't any others
When the bad times came along
I turned and you had gone
From the start, I loved you, I was wrong

Falling out, it's the end
May as well have never been
The cards are up, the chips are all cashed in
You won't see me again
Don't consider me your friend
Falling out - look away - it's the end

Always thought of you as my big brother
Never knew we couldn't trust each other
Two faces I could see, as you shook my money tree
There's no more "you & me" let it be

Falling out, it's the end
And I lose another friend
The cards are up, the chips are all cashed in
You won't see me again
Don't consider me your friend
Falling out - look away - it's the end

(solo)

Falling out, it's the end
May as well have never been
The cards are up, the chips are all cashed in
You won't see me again

Don't consider me your friend
Falling out - look away - it's the end

Overall Meaning

In "Falling Out," Ween sings about a relationship that has fallen apart. The singer reminisces about a time when they and their former lover were together and it was just the two of them. However, the relationship eventually deteriorated, and when tough times came around, the lover was nowhere to be found. The singer admits that they loved this person, but ultimately they were wrong to do so.

The second half of the song seems to be about a falling out with a friend, and the betrayal that goes along with it. The singer addresses someone who they used to see as a trusted friend and confidant, who they thought of as a big brother. However, they eventually realized that this person had two faces and was taking advantage of them financially. The chorus repeats the idea that the friendship is over and that there is no turning back.

Overall, the lyrics are about the breakdown of relationships and the hurt and betrayal that can come with it. The song seems to suggest that once a relationship has soured, it can be difficult to go back to the way things were before.
