Hero
Weezer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was a kid, I thought I'd save the world
Running 'round and chasing all the criminals
Swinging on a web, flying in the sky
Shooting lasers from my eyes
But now I know it never was my destiny
It's not my place in life, not who I'm meant to be
And I don't need the glory, I don't need the fame
And I don't wanna wear this cape

'Cause on the inside (on the inside), I know it won't last
On the inside (on the inside), I'm an outcast

Well, everybody needs a hero, but I'm not everybody else
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah
You know, I tried to be a hero, but I was lying to myself
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah

They build you up and then they're gonna tear you down
They love you, then they hate you if you wear a crown
It's not that I don't love to solve a mystery
But life is hard enough with one identity
If silence is the voice of a new generation
Then I could live up to all of your expectations
I'd hammer down hard, like I'm Iron Fist
Then disappear like I don't exist

And on the inside (on the inside), I know it won't last
On the inside (on the inside), I'm an outcast

Well, everybody needs a hero, but I'm not everybody else
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah
You know, I tried to be a hero, but I was lying to myself
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah

Hero, oh, oh, oh, oh
Hero, oh, oh, oh, oh

Well, everybody needs a hero, but I'm not everybody else
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah
You know, I tried to be a hero, but I was lying to myself
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah
Well, everybody needs a hero, but I'm not everybody else
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah

You know, I tried to be your hero, but I was lying to myself
I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, yeah, I walk alone, oh, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Hero" by Weezer explores the theme of personal identity and the pressure to conform to societal expectations. The lyrics depict the singer's childhood aspirations of wanting to save the world and be a hero. They imagined themselves as a superhero, swinging on webs, flying in the sky, and shooting lasers from their eyes. However, as they grow older, they come to realize that being a hero is not their true calling and destiny. They acknowledge that they don't need the glory, fame, or the cape that comes with being a hero.

The singer expresses their inner struggle and feelings of being an outcast. They realize that being a hero may bring temporary satisfaction, but it won't last. The song highlights the loneliness the singer feels in their decision to walk alone and not conform to societal expectations. They reject the idea of being a hero that everyone desires and chooses to be true to themselves, even if it means going against the norm.

The lyrics also touch upon the fickleness of society, how people build others up only to tear them down. They mention the love and hate that comes with wearing a crown or having the spotlight on them. The singer acknowledges their love for solving mysteries but emphasizes that life is already challenging with just one identity. They question the pressure to live up to others' expectations and express the desire to disappear and not be noticed, like they don't exist.

Overall, "Hero" captures the internal struggle of wanting to be a hero but realizing that it's not true to oneself, and choosing to embrace individuality and walk alone instead.

E lá no fundo
Sei que não vai durar
Por dentro
Sou um excluído

Here's what's written on the piece of paper:

"Whether you run emergency supplies on electric golf carts or translate English for someone who doesn't speak it, we thank you.

Whether you man computers or pick up phones, answer questions and concerns or route people here and there, we thank you.

Whether you donate pillows and blankets or give money, we thank you.

To those lacking proper face masks, risking their health for the greater good, we thank you.

While the rest of us retreated to our homes, you ran towards the threat in a battle you didn't even know you signed up for. Your bravery and selflessness are awe-inspiring. You are the reason we shall rock another day.

Life is good, and for all of this, we thank you.

My Dad loved Weezer and went to a lot of their concerts and I am only 12 and he passed away from a heart attack on January 8th 2020 at the age of 42 and I am using his account right now if anyone from Weezer reads this I want you to know my dad loved your music and one of his favorite shirts to wear was a red, yellow and white Weezer shirt and this song really sparked joy for me for the first time in a few months so thank you for spreading joy to millions of people each day also 4 days before my Dad passed away my grandpa (his dad) passed away and not even a month after all of that we got Put in quarantine you inspired my dad to start playing guitar and also partly inspired me to start playing piano not only that but classic rock piano and I love it so thank you for giving my dad and myself inspiration to start playing instruments 🎹🎫🎸🎸🎹🎹🙏🙏Thanks for all the support and I hope that they will see my comment and know that their band just made me happy every time I listen to a song of theirs. My dad would’ve loved this song because his dad was his hero and he died 4 days before my dad did so I’m trying to convince myself that he died happy. I’m actually his daughter but thanks for all the support anyways. My Mom lost the love of her life.
I read every single comment you guys make. No matter how long so thank you.
