They were signed by Simon Cowell and are managed by Louis Walsh. In 2008, they were declared as Republic of Ireland's ninth-richest celebrities under 30 years old and 13th in general. They garnered 14 number one singles in the United Kingdom, the third-highest in UK history, tying with Cliff Richard and trailing behind only Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The group has also broken a few top records, including "Music artist with most consecutive number 1's in the UK" and the "Biggest selling arena act in the Wembley Arena".
Over years of their career, Westlife's music has evolved from teen pop to a pop sound, with an emphasis on ballads. Most of the group's hits have been composed by experienced songwriters, most notably Steve Mac and Wayne Hector.
On 1 June 2008, Westlife marked their 10th anniversary with a concert in Croke Park, Dublin which saw more than 83,000 fans attending the special occasion. Music Week revealed on their website that Westlife is the official third top touring act within the years 2005–2008, while they were 7th top touring act of 2008.
They have announced that they are to split in 2012 after 14 years following a final tour.

Oh yeah yeah, yeah
Nobody knows me
Yet everyone knows my name
Some people judge me
Not knowing that I'm the same
But I keep my old friends, always
But then I get lonely
Counting the endless days
Are you here for me at all?
Do you care for me at all?
Well this time now I know
I ain't standing alone no more
'cause all I want is love
Someone who can share the pain I feel
And the eyes that stare
Won't stare at me no more
'cause all I need is time
Time for me to open up and show
The person I am
The person you think you know
You don't know
You don't know
Some heartfelt emotion
Creeping from deep inside
'cause being this person
Is all I've got left to hide
Are you here for me at all?
Did you care for me at all?
Last time I was told
I ain't standing alone no more
All I need is love
Someone who can share the pain I feel
And the eyes that stare
Won't stare at me no more
And all I need is time
Time for me to open up and show
The person I am
The person you don't know
You don't know
You don't know
The lyrics to Westlife’s “You Don’t Know” talk about a sense of loneliness that is felt despite receiving a large amount of attention and fame. The song conveys the idea that people see and recognize the artist, but not truly knowing who they are, leading to a sense of isolation. The lyrics deal with the issue of feeling misunderstood and misjudged by society.
The opening lines “Oh yeah yeah, yeah, Nobody knows me, Yet everyone knows my name” reveal the sense of contradiction that comes when the public persona and the private self are out of sync. The chorus of the song explicitly addresses the desire for a deep, meaningful connection with someone, to share in the pain that they feel. The bridge of the song reveals the pain of hiding one’s true self from the world and the fear of being truly seen by others.
The theme of the song recognizes the pressure faced by those in the public eye to maintain a certain image, and the loneliness that comes with a life that is often on display for the world to see. The song portrays the desire to be vulnerable with someone, to allow for true connections to be made.

WELCOME TO WESTLIFE WORLD!
I always picture Mark walking beside the lake back at Ireland whenever I hear this... just like what he was doing when they firmed him for the Westlife Story documentary and this was playing in the background. I still play that VCD every once in a while. Such good times. I'm glad I get to live my childhood with them as my idols. Boy, their songs never get old. :) Forever a Westlife fan.
