The current version is an american band formed in 1998 by vocalist Tony Harnell and guitarist Mark Reale. Soon, bassist Bruno Ravel and drummer joined John O'Reilly and they released their first album in 1999. Harnell was the lead vocalist for TNT.
The original Westworld were a British three-piece rock band active in the late 1980s.
Named after the sci-fi film Westworld they were formed in 1986 by former Generation X (band) guitarist Bob "Derwood" Andrews and American vocalist Elizabeth Westwood. The line up was completed by drummer Nick Burton.
Visually the band were styled in a way reminiscent of comic book art and musically they were a blend of classic 1950s rock and roll, glam and punk updated with beatboxes and sequencer. They became an instant success with their debut single Sonic Boom Boy reaching number 11 in the UK charts on February 1987; this was accompanied by a memorable comic-book styled video. They had one more top 40 hit Banana Bamboo which reached number 37 on May 1987. They released three albums before moving to the Arizona desert in 1992 to form the band Moondogg.

Out There
Westworld Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Heavenly bodies look closer than they are
Some wasted bound to die person said
Cinematic in ghostly angelic light
You're living out of your element my boy don't you know
This acting so naive, when I'm old enough to know how
Hypersensitive, to the words draped in white
There must be light at the end
There must be someone out there
Waiting for me when I cross over
Sunsets on a warm horizon
Behind the door to somewhere
I almost feel her hand on my face
There must be someone out there for me
As I fall into this I release myself from the ground
There must be someone out there
There must be light at the end
Behind the door to somewhere
Waiting for me when I cross over
Sunsets on a warm horizon
There must be someone out there for me
In the song "Out There," Westworld creates a mood of contemplation and searching for meaning. The lyrics depict a protagonist who is struggling to understand their place in the universe, and seeking connection with something greater than themselves. The imagery is mystical and otherworldly, reinforcing the idea of a higher power or destiny at play. The opening lines paint a picture of a surreal, drug-induced experience, with the "enchanted blue star" and heavenly bodies that seem closer than they are. There is a sense of disorientation and confusion, but also a feeling of awe and wonder.
As the song progresses, the singer becomes more introspective and self-aware. They acknowledge their own naivety and hypersensitivity, recognizing that they have much to learn about life and the world. The refrain "there must be light at the end" suggests a belief in something beyond the here and now, a hope for a greater purpose or meaning. The reference to "sunsets on a warm horizon" creates a sense of peace and beauty, as if the singer is looking towards a brighter future.
Overall, "Out There" is a song about grappling with existential questions and seeking answers beyond oneself. The lyrics use vivid imagery and poetic language to create a dreamlike atmosphere, inviting the listener to ponder their own place in the universe.
