Lazy Susan
White Hassle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My lips on your lips & your lips on mine
Like the shoreline of the ocean & a falling hairline
Like an old couple at it again
When the innocence ended we dove right in

Lazy susan & i throwing pearls before swine
(the swine got the pearls & they took as a good sign)
Well the riff-raff had the last laugh in the early a.m. chill
Ghetto youths training pit bulls to kill
& people in church straining to sit still
While we pass'd around the holy H2O

Like a choking victim in the back catalog
Just a taste of the hair of the atomic dog
Cracking up in the a.m. with the rising sun
& the midwest farmer's daughters

So crack the black whip under the tightrope walker
Give the pink slip to the rock n'roll rocker

Cracking up in the evening on the front lawn
Only to find his long lost lover long gone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to White Hassle's song Lazy Susan are a mishmash of various images and experiences. The opening line "My lips on your lips & your lips on mine," is a classic representation of a lovers' union. The comparison between the "shoreline of the ocean & a falling hairline" suggests the beauty of nature and the natural process of aging. The lyrics also hint at the sexual aspect of the relationship as they talk about an "old couple at it again."

However, as the song progresses, there is a sudden shift in the mood. "Lazy Susan & I throwing pearls before swine" suggests a feeling that their love may not be appreciated by others (swine) or may be taken for granted. The line "Ghetto youths training pit bulls to kill" seems to portray a life of violence and desperation, and "people in church straining to sit still" symbolizes the mundanity of religious institutions.

The song then brings in a lyrical play with references to choking victim in the back catalog, taste of the hair of the atomic dog, and midwest farmer's daughters. These lines may seem disjointed and confusing, but they reveal a deeper narrative of the painful and subversive dimensions of existence. In conclusion, Lazy Susan's lyrics offer a unique representation of intimacy, society, and life's complexities, all through a mix of surreal imagery and carefully crafted phrasing.
