Mishra, a straight edger and ex-Marxist, often incorporates political concerns in his songs veiled in terms of personal relationships (as in his only hit). After a troubled working relationship with EMI Records, Mishra was dropped from the label in 1997 and since then has gone back to working with indie labels like Parasol Records. His last album, 2000's Peek & Poke, received moderately enthusiastic reviews but sold pitifully compared to his major label work.
In 2005 White Town contributed the song "The PNAC Cabal" to the charity album "Voyces United for UNHCR" (Voyces United for UNHCR (disc 1)).
In October 2006 White Town released a new album, Don't Mention The War on Mishra's own label, Bzangy Records.
Every Second Counts
White Town Lyrics

Every moment one less to try
Daily weekly see them change
In your mirror
Re arranged
The song "Every Second Counts" by White Town is a powerful and introspective song that deals with time and the realization that our time on earth is finite. The lyrics "Can you hear the seconds passing by, every moment one less to try" speaks to the feeling that we often feel as though time is slipping away from us and that each passing second is one less opportunity to accomplish our goals and dreams. This realization is only heightened by the fact that "Daily weekly see them change, in your mirror re-arranged" which suggests that not only is time fleeting but that we, as individuals, are constantly changing and evolving.
The vocals in the song are accompanied by a driving drum beat and bassline that create a sense of urgency, as though time is marching on relentlessly. The sparse use of electric guitar and keyboard notes during the chorus adds to the poignancy of the lyrics as the singer implores us to make the most of every second. The overall effect is a powerful and emotional song that encourages the listener to truly appreciate the time they have and strive to make it count.
