Mishra, a straight edger and ex-Marxist, often incorporates political concerns in his songs veiled in terms of personal relationships (as in his only hit). After a troubled working relationship with EMI Records, Mishra was dropped from the label in 1997 and since then has gone back to working with indie labels like Parasol Records. His last album, 2000's Peek & Poke, received moderately enthusiastic reviews but sold pitifully compared to his major label work.
In 2005 White Town contributed the song "The PNAC Cabal" to the charity album "Voyces United for UNHCR" (Voyces United for UNHCR (disc 1)).
In October 2006 White Town released a new album, Don't Mention The War on Mishra's own label, Bzangy Records.
I'm Alone
White Town Lyrics

Understand you're the only one
I feel your closeness like a missing key
You've got me all over you
You're all over me
I'm alone
In the sunshine we always wait for dark
In the classroom you avoid my eyes
When you kiss me I can't hear you lie
I'm alone
Her face is fading it will soon be gone
But there's part of me that will never move on
Her words are falling through the sky like snow
I hear them calling now it's time to go
The song "I'm Alone" by White Town is a melancholic track that deals with themes of loneliness and heartbreak. The opening lines of the song, "Stay with me till the clouds are gone, Understand you're the only one" suggest a longing for companionship and the desire for someone to be there through thick and thin. The lyrics go on to describe the closeness that the singer feels to this person, a missing key in his life, however, everything is not as it seems as he declares "I'm Alone".
The following verses talk about the desperate measures that the singer has to take in order to spend time with this person, from waiting in a lay-by for cars to pass, to avoiding each other's eyes in the classroom, and the difficulty of discerning truth from lies when they are together. The song ends on a poignant note with the singer acknowledging the inevitability of moving on from this person who is fading away just like a memory, but there is a part of him that will always stay behind.
Overall, the song plays with the idea of being alone in a crowded room, of feeling misunderstood and disconnected from the world around you, while at the same time, holding on to the memories of those you have loved and lost. The somber tone and gentle melody give the song a haunting presence and the raw honesty of the lyrics resonates with many.
