Twenty Eight
Why? Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Twenty eight

Tell me are you single yet
My heart's as big as texas
It'd take more than just a lingual threat
To get this pest to let live
At best he'll need a sedative
And strap him to a steady bed
At worst it's he's already dead
The first time folks have heard this
A song of these: the bone dry jokes
From the grown kid's spokesmen's notebooks
Lil pone go slow and hollow
Like an empty rowboat looks

Left to float alone it follows
Where any air goes, it's took

Overall Meaning

The song Twenty Eight by Why? is a melancholic piece that focuses on the struggles of love and the fear of rejection. The lyrics suggest that the singer is in love with someone who is potentially already in a relationship. He paints a vivid picture of his unyielding affection, claiming that his heart is as big as Texas. However, he is aware that his advances may not be welcome, and he might need a sedative or be strapped to a steady bed. The imagery of being physically restrained highlights the singer's desperation to hold onto his love, to the point of risking obsession or madness.

The lyrics can be interpreted in various ways, but they primarily showcase the singer's vulnerability and insecurity when it comes to love. The repetition of the phrase "Tell me are you single yet" implies that the singer might have been rejected before, and he is afraid of facing another rejection. The idea of being left to float alone in an empty rowboat further highlights the loneliness that comes with unrequited love. In conclusion, the lyrics of Twenty Eight portray love as a complex emotion that can bring both joy and pain, and ultimately revealing how complex the human mind can be.

This house is not a home to you
But you decide to go ahead and lay down, lay down
There are no words to describe the depth of your indifference
'Cause I see you're here to stay
Should've known to pick my fate
I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong
(To let you in my)
To let you in my home
(Now you know where I sleep)
Now you know where I sleep
(Never felt so damn weak)
Hey there, lonely girl
Did you have to tell your friends about the way I got you screaming my name?
Did you have to tell the world?
Now your girls all wanna fuck
Girl you could've been the one
Gotta change my number twice a month
When you could have simply kept it on the down low
I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong
(To let you in my)
To let you in my home
(Now you know where I sleep)
Now you know where I sleep
(Never felt so damn weak)
And baby if I knew you'd be living in my sheets
I wouldn't have shown you any love
I would have left you in the club
You said you don't belong
You keep saying there's no one
And there's no where to go
But who keeps calling on your phone?
I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong
I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong
(To let you in my)
To let you in my home
(Now you know where I sleep)
Now you know where I sleep
(Never felt so damn weak)
I'm so wrong, I'm so wrong
(Girl, if your man call your phone again)
(To let you in my)
To let you in my home
(Girl, if your man call your phone again)
Now you know where I sleep
(Never felt so damn weak)

The Groovy Guitar Dude

For anyone who wants to play this on guitar, here's how :)

- Standard Tuning - Capo 6th Fret -

- Chord Progression & Picking Pattern -
Am, Em, Dm, F

For each chord, pick: GBe (at the same time), then Bass Note [repeat x4 for each chord]

This matches up perfectly with the piano! Repeat for the ENTIRE song!

Hope this helps out! If you get stuck or need a little extra help, I just posted a video lesson for this on my channel :)

This man wrote this song at age 19. Truly destined to succeed.

Hibbs4Prez

No, he wrote this song exclusively for the Trilogy album (one of the three originals for that album). He'd be in his early 20s by then.

Hopeless Romantic
