The Evil in Me
Wild Dogs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Before you take another slice of me
take a good long look at yourself and tell me what do you see
whats your reflection in me

all those fearing looks in your eyes
never knowing paradise i believe
there is no reason to be
whips and chains and baseball bats
i kinda like the pain as a matter of fact
break me down make me bleed
all you do is breed the evil in me
you breed the evil in me
you breed the evil in me
never knowing wrong from right
being punished night after night
let me be gonna set myself free

worked my body to the bone
living my life all alone
thats my plea this cant be happening to me

whips and chains and baseball bats
i kinda like the pain as a matter of fact
break me down make me bleed
all you do is breed
the evil in me you breed the evil in me
you breed the evil in me

you breed the evil in me
you breed the evil in me

singin songs i know too well
home life is a living hell...
can't they see what theyre doing to me

whips and chains and baseball bats
i kinda like the pain as a matter of fact
break me down make me bleed
raised me from a demon seed

let me be the evil
the evil in me

Overall Meaning

The Wild Dogs song, "The Evil in Me," depicts a scene of dominance that appears to have been going on for some time. The singer calls to the attention of his counterpart to take a "good long look at yourself" before taking another "slice of" him. He challenges the other person to look at their reflection in him and question what they see. Within their eyes, fear and a lack of satisfaction in "never knowing paradise" are present. The singer believes that there is "no reason to be" so fearful and negative, and the other person's behavior has directly played a part in this.

Despite this, the singer presents a sense of being without options. Punished "night after night," he has endured to the point where he cannot be sure what is right from wrong. The other person's actions have resulted in the singer becoming trapped in both physical and mental pain. However, this is of little concern to the singer, and they reveal that they "kinda like the pain as a matter of fact." The other person has helped to create a being consumed by evil, and the singer will no longer fight it. Instead, they embrace it.

The song paints a picture of someone who has been heavily influenced by others, and as a result, they allowed themselves to become consumed by "the evil in me." The singer has been restrained and "worked my body to the bone," living an isolated existence of punishment. Their environment is "a living hell," and they are begging to "set myself free." Through detailed lyrics, Wild Dogs conveys the story of someone who is now lost to the previously mentioned "Evil."
