Wiley is known as 'the godfather of grime', since it is widely regarded he is a pioneering influence in the grime scene, and he is also notable for his exceptional work-rate, having five projects lined up for 2008 alone. Wiley has been one of the biggest artists in the history of the genre, releasing three albums and having been signed to XL Recordings and now to Big Dada Recordings, on which he has recently released his third album "Playtime Is Over". Wiley founded Eskibeat Recordings in 2007. This is not a crew but is a record label which consists of MC's such as Chipmunk, Little Dee and ice kid.
In 2008, Wiley found mainstream success with his hit single 'Wearing My Rolex'.
Wiley first started producing in 1996, working in various genres, notable Jungle and Garage. Wiley first became well known in the East London underground garage scene during the late 1990s, when he was a member of the Pay As You Go Cartel, who had some limited UK chart success. He also co-produced "Nicole's Groove" as Phaze One, and appeared on several tracks by other artists. He made numerous vinyl releases, often driving around London himself selling to record shops. One of these, "Eskimo", was a huge success on the underground scene, reputedly selling in the thousands, where most other artists within the scene could only sell 500-1000 copies of their tracks. He regularly appeared on East London pirate radio stations playing grime tracks, which helped increase his profile. He still does underground events, like Lord Of The Mics 1 , Eskimo Dance, and also does Sidewinder but with his group Roll Deep, which he left Pay As You Go Cartel to create.

Even though you don't know
Even though you don't know my name
Me and you bleed exactly the same
I smile and come across all tame
A hundred volts take your life ain't no game
I switch them lights off
Hey DJ turn them lights off
She got my lights switched on
My lights switched on
She lookin' my eyes like I like this tone
I wanna know what side she's from
I seen many girls but I like this one
Told me she was a west side lady
Had a few friends but they were all shady
Now she on the solo team
So nobody can send her crazy
Too many friends and not enough true friends
Made her wanna go and move to new ends
I care though, 'cause even if my life gets lonely
It's all good, to keep few friends
We connected I asked her out and then she accept it
I think she gets it
When the end of the nights comes
Me and her leave for the exit
Even though you don't know my name
Me and you bleed exactly the same
I smile and come across all tame
A hundred volts take your life ain't no game
I switch them lights off
Oh DJ turn them lights off
Everywhere we go we about to have fun
You take care of me we get the job done
She keeps my mind calm, getting alot done
I know it's on me but I feel so alone
On first site, I wanted to be acquainted
People gonna see us out think that we are dating
And we don't know where we even wanna take it
But we got it good on I don't wanna break it
We connected I asked her out and then she accept it
I think she gets it
When the end of the nights comes
Me and her leave for the exit
Even though you don't know my name
Me and you bleed exactly the same
I smile and come across all tame
A hundred volts take your life ain't no game
I switch them lights off
Oh DJ turn them lights off
Turn the lights on, Beyonce
When you not cried ever I must say
I like the dimples on her face
Young black and a tat on her rip cage
That sexy dress the only part that's revealing yes
That's why I'm respecting her
Rejecting them and selecting her strength
Anywhere we go we bond to have fun
You take care of me we get the job done
I switch them lights off
Oh DJ turn them lights off
When the end of the nights comes
Me and her leave for the exit
The song "Lights On" by Wiley feat Angel AND Tinchy Stryder is a story about a man who is attracted to a woman and wants to get to know her better. He feels a deep connection with her despite not knowing her name. He goes on to explain that they are similar because they both bleed the same way, and he smiles even though he is nervous around her. He uses a metaphor to describe the potential danger of their relationship, saying that it's like a hundred volts that can take your life if you're not careful.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of the DJ turning off the lights, which seems to symbolize the feelings and intentions of the two people. When the lights are off, they can be themselves and enjoy each other's company. The verses describe the man's desire to get to know the woman better without rushing into anything, as well as his appreciation for her strength and beauty.
Overall, the lyrics of "Lights On" convey the excitement and uncertainty of new relationships, as well as the importance of finding someone who makes you feel comfortable and understood.
