Biography
Willeke Alberti started her career at the early age of eleven in the musical Duel om Barbara and she recorded her first single in 1958 together with her father. During the 1960s, she was a well-known singer in the Netherlands and had at least one #1 hit with "De Winter Was Lang" ("The Winter Was Long"), however there was no official Dutch chart at the time. Willeke and her father had a television show between 1965 and 1969. Her singing career from 1970 onwards is less active, however Alberti still releases singles and albums at an irregular interval and plays minor roles in television programs and movies.
Alberti married John de Mol on July 24, 1976. Together they have one son Johnny de Mol, who is currently an actor and television personality. The couple divorced in 1980. She had a second marriage with Danish football player Søren Lerby and a second son was born from that marriage. Søren Lerby and Willeke Alberti separated in 1990.
In 1994, she represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Waar is de Zon" ("Where is the Sun"), which claimed a meagre four points from the international juries, all coming from Austria. The Netherlands beat only Estonia and Lithuania that evening.
Wie Komt Er In M'n Hokkie

Wilde ik alleen nog maar
Spelen met de jongens van de klas
Maar lag 't aan m'n voeten
Of m'n honderdduizend sproeten
Ik kwam er bij hun niet aan te pas
En als ze naar de speeltuin gingen
Of touwtje wilden springen
Maar zelfs met een jaar of zeven
Wil je ook wel wat beleven
Voor de allereerste keer riep ik toen
O wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Knibbel knabbel knuisje
Wie komt er in m'n huisje
Wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
O wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Tien of elf jaren later
Totdat later weer zou blijken
Knibbel knabbel knuisje
Wie komt er in m'n huisje
Wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
O wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Ik kreeg een stuk of vijftig brieven
Hele gekke hele lieve
Knibbel knabbel knuisje
Wie komt er in m'n huisje
Wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
O wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
O wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
The lyrics of Willeke Alberti's song "Wie Komt Er In M'n Hokkie" depict a journey of longing for acceptance, love, and companionship that begins in childhood and continues into adulthood. From a young age, the singer's desire to play and connect with others, particularly the boys in her class, is hindered by factors like her appearance (honderdduizend sproeten or a lot of freckles) which make her feel left out and overlooked. Despite this, there is a resilient spirit within her that seeks to break free from loneliness and isolation.
As she grows older, the singer reflects on missed opportunities and misinterpreted interactions, revealing a vulnerability and a desire for genuine connection. The repetition of the phrase "Wie komt er in m'n hokkie" (Who comes into my little corner) conveys a desperate plea for someone to enter her world, to see her for who she truly is, and to accept her with all her flaws and imperfections. The symbolism of the hokkie, or little corner, represents a safe space where she longs to share her life with someone special.
The singer's persistence in seeking companionship is unwavering, as seen through her efforts to reach out through a newspaper advertisement in hopes of finding a like-minded soul. The theme of hope and perseverance shines through as she navigates the complexities of relationships and yearns for a deep connection that transcends mere surface-level interactions. The mention of her mother's multiple marriages adds a layer of inherited longing for love and stability, highlighting the singer's quest for a meaningful and lasting relationship.
In the final verses, the singer finds love in an unexpected way, as a letter from a stranger expressing genuine interest in her stolen heart. The imagery of the suitor with duiven (pigeons) underscores a sense of purity and devotion, symbolizing a love that is patient, steadfast, and enduring. The closing lines, where she repeats the familiar refrain "O wie komt er in m'n hokkie" before the lights go out, encapsulate a moment of quiet intimacy and anticipation as she cherishes the presence of her beloved in her little corner of the world. Overall, the song encapsulates themes of yearning, resilience, and the transformative power of love and companionship.

Al vanaf m'n zeven jaar
Ever since I was seven years old
Wilde ik alleen nog maar
I only wanted to
Spelen met de jongens van de klas
Play with the boys in my class
Maar lag 't aan m'n voeten
But was it because of my feet
Of m'n honderdduizend sproeten
Or my countless freckles
Ik kwam er bij hun niet aan te pas
I didn't fit in with them
En als ze naar de speeltuin gingen
And when they went to the playground
Of touwtje wilden springen
Or wanted to jump rope
I sat there with a lollipop doing nothing
Maar zelfs met een jaar of zeven
But even at seven years old
Wil je ook wel wat beleven
You also want to experience something
Voor de allereerste keer riep ik toen
For the very first time I shouted
O wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Oh who will join me in my little house
Knibbel knabbel knuisje
Nibble, nibble, gnaw
Wie komt er in m'n huisje
Who will come into my home
Wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Who oh who will join me in my little house
Tien of elf jaren later
Ten or eleven years later
Sloeg ik nog dezelfde flater
I still made the same mistake
When a boy smiled at me I thought 'Well,
Die zit je aardig te bekijken'
He's looking at you nicely'
Totdat later weer zou blijken
Until it would be revealed later
Dat hij alleen de weg vragen wou
That he only wanted to ask for directions
Ik heb de moed nooit opgegeven
I never gave up hope
Want waar hoop is is ook leven
Because where there is hope, there is also life
That was mama and she got married seven times
Dus vroeg ik in een advertentie
So I asked in an advertisement
Naar een ongelukkig mensie
For an unhappy person
Just like me, if possible, a true gentleman
Ik kreeg een stuk of vijftig brieven
I received about fifty letters
Hele gekke hele lieve
Some really crazy, some very sweet
But one of them stole my heart right away
Hij zei 'Dat stukkie in de krant
He said 'That piece in the newspaper
Met m'n duiven kom direct hierheen'
With my pigeons come here immediately'
Now I've been here for a while
En heb nog geen seconde spijt
And I have not regretted a single second
Want eens per dag zeg ik hem even na
Because once a day I repeat after him
Net als de duiven krijgt de baas
Just like the pigeons, the master gets
'S Avonds laat dan erge haast
In the late evening, then in a hurry
When I softly say before the light goes out
O wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Oh who will join me in my little house
Knibbel knabbel knuisje
Nibble, nibble, gnaw
Wie komt er in m'n huisje
Who will come into my home
Wie o wie komt er in m'n hokkie
Who oh who will join me in my little house
