William McDowell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Alone... surrounded... consumed... by You...
I need You to help me,
Need You to help me breathe...
Woh-oh-oh-oh, I need You to help me breathe...
Oh... woh-oh-oh-oh, woh-oh-oh-oh, take me in.
Oh... woh-oh-oh-oh, woh-oh-oh-oh, take me in.
Only a little bit closer,
A little while longer in your arms.
Take me a little bit deeper
You are life to my soul.
[X2]
Oh... woh-oh-oh-oh, woh-oh-oh-oh, take me in.
[Repeat several times]
The lyrics of "In" by William McDowell express a deep yearning for God's presence and a desire to be consumed by Him. The singer seems overwhelmed by God's presence, hence the lines "I scarce can move... Alone...surrounded...consumed...by You." The singer acknowledges their need for God's help to breathe, suggesting that without Him, they would not be able to survive.
The refrain "take me in" is repeated several times throughout the song, reinforcing the idea of being consumed by God's presence. The singer wants to be taken in completely, to be one with God, and to experience the fullness of His love and power. The chorus repeats the same theme, asking God to take them in, to hold them close, and to give them life.
Overall, the lyrics of "In" portray a deep desire for intimacy with God and a willingness to surrender completely to His will.
