Democracy
Witchcraft Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But my cynisim has sprung
Out of a decline inner dominion
Inside I die inside I run
Twisted beauty and brief fascination
Ugliness and decay
Into this system we were born and we were humble
Our rage has no trail
Democracy the patriarchy indoctrinated tortured ones
Fuck your heroes
Screw your gods
Fuck your icons
Deal with the real
Your made up morals
Your media ethics
Fuck you all
Degenerated politics
Democracy the patriarchy indoctrinated tortured ones
We all choose to be raped by authorities
Constant shameless mockery
Defy and deny individuality
Sanity grows inside of you
They suffer
They do
The song 'Democracy' by Witchcraft talks about the decline of an individual's inner self under the influence of a patriarchal society that indoctrinates and tortures its people. The lyrics suggest that the singer is not indifferent to what is happening in the world, but is rather driven by cynicism. The singer highlights the twisted beauty and brief fascination in our society, but at the same time, there is ugliness and decay. Democracy, which is supposed to be fair and impartial is also being stripped and corrupted by a patriarchal society. The rage of the people has gone off the rails and the singer notes the disintegration of ethics and morals as a result of politics.
The second verse deals with the disillusionment with different forms of authority, be it heroes, gods, or icons. The singer lays bare the hypocrisy of these figures, and rather than looking up to them, the people should instead deal with the real issues of society. The singer is not afraid to call out the inherent problem with democracy as it stands today, a system that indoctrinates and tortures its people. The song concludes with the suggestion that individuals choose to be raped by the authorities, and the constant shameless mockery by the patriarchy compels people to deny their individuality.
