See My Baby Jive
Wizzard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look out! look out! your Momma will shout
You might as well go home
She said my bed get's into your hair
So give me back my comb
But you
You make things that get along
Turn out so wrong
Doo ron, doo ron
You'd better rock on
The band might play our song

See my baby jive
See my baby jive
She hangs onto me and she really goes
Whoa (whoa) whoa
See my baby jive
Such a lazy jive
Well every one you meet coming down the street
Just to see my baby jive

That tenor horn is turning me on
He's dropped down to his knees
Oh boy that sax is calling me back
This dog ain't got no fleas
But you
You dance all the guys up town
Into the ground
Doo ron, doo ron
You gotta rock on
Your Daddy ain't coming home

See my baby jive
See my baby jive
She hangs on to me and she really goes
Whoa (whoa) whoa
See my baby jive
Such a lazy jive
Well every one you meet coming down the street
Just to see my baby jive

Too bad,So long,it's driving me mad
The top down on my car
I don't suppose that everyone knows
exactly who you are
but you
You make things that get along
turn out so wrong
Doo ron, doo ron
You gotta rock on
The band might play our song

See my baby jive
See my baby jive
She hangs onto me and she really goes
Whoa (whoa) whoa
See my baby jive
Such a lazy jive
Every one you meet coming down the street
Just to see my baby jive
Whoa See my baby jive
She hangs onto me and she really goes
Whoa (whoa) whoa
See my baby jive
Such a lazy jive
Every one you meet coming down the street

Just to see my baby jive
See my baby jive

Overall Meaning

The song "See My Baby Jive" by Wizzard is a fun and upbeat tune about a man who can't wait to show off his dance moves with his partner. The opening lines caution that the man's mom might disapprove of his partner's presence because she leaves her hair in the bed, but the singer insists that he has no intention of going home. He proclaims that his partner can make a great time turn out “so wrong”. The chorus repeats throughout the song, with the singer boasting about his partner's impressive dance moves, and how everybody wants to see her jive.

Throughout the song, there are references to the music that's playing as well--the tenor horn and the saxophone both feature and encourage the man's dancing. The music is so infectious that even the uptown guys get into the dancing spirit.

The song "See My Baby Jive" is a playful and lighthearted celebration of love and dance. The singer has found someone he loves to dance with, and he isn't ashamed to show her off and let her shine on the dance floor. Wizzard's upbeat instrumentation and lively lyrics make "See My Baby Jive" perfect for any dance party or celebration!

@WedgePee

The 330th UK #1.

Now that the Move had split up, Roy Wood formed another group.

Most of us only remember Wizzard for their Crimbo song that you hear every year. This, and the follow-up, "Angel Fingers", are less well-known.

Glam rock was on its last legs here, but this packs tonnes of entertainment value into five minutes. It's not cloying or boring in any other way.

7.4/10 ("Good")

Great song. Absolute classic.
They don't make music this good anymore.

I also bought this single and it remains of my all time favourites.its a masterpiece and sounds just as good today as it did then .This song I seem to recall was number one for about six weeks.i think a lot of people thought the Band was a joke because of the outrageous way Roy dressed and some of the band performed. pity coz it really is an epic production. The climax to the song starting at 4.25 is just fantastic

@ianmitchell7109

Extraordinary talent. Can't think offhand of any other pop/rock track where a bass saxophone has such a dominant part. Musical genius. That's Roy Wood at his absolute best.

@peterkassner3552

going through a playlist of 70s stuff, from my youth. I'm happy to say i lived through that era.. what's immediately obvious is how uplifting and happy the music is! Nowadays it's just angry and depressing... the only ray of sunshine in any of it is when they sample a 70s or 80s tune!

@shelleymoore5740

This song still makes me get up and dance round the room, radio on full blast, love wizzard !!!

@jamirimaj6880

ABBA said they sampled some of this in Waterloo, and i can definitely hear it. What an underrated band.
