Tracks like the #1 smash "Charlie", along with top ten hits "Something Wrong", "Africa", "Never Ever", "Green Fever" etc made sure that all five (SAMA nominated) WONDERBOOM albums were represented on the "All The Hits" CD/DVD compilation, released at the end of 2005, bringing
' WONDERBOOM PHASE ONE' to a close.
National tourswith Simple Minds and Live and headling every South African festival (sharing the stage with the likes of The Mission and Feeder) led to WONDERBOOM being constantly touted as S.A.’s hottest live act. CITO, MARTIN, DANNY AND WADE lived up to this claim in December 2004 when WONDERBOOM represented South Africa at the Global Battle of the Bands in London and finished second in a field of 16 bands from all over the world.
Other accolades include added the prestigious “Kanna” award won at the 2005 Klein Karoo Kunstefees and People magazine’s “Best S.A. Band” Crystal Award in 2003.
Early in 2006 vocalist Cito landed the lead role in the Pieter Torien production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. The five month break from live shows, along with the phenomenal success of the theatre production and the impact Cito has made in the role, has resulted in an unprecendented demand for WONDERBOOM.
'WONDERBOOM PHASE TWO’ begins with “City of Gold” an album released on the Sheer Sound indi label, is full of radio friendly singles sure to take the band’s already large following to massive proportions!
City of Gold

It's not me who's listening to you
It's no crime as long as we laugh
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
Take my car but you can't drive me away
Take my cash and some day you'll pay
Take me out, I'm not afraid
I search the sky for refuge
The boulevards for love
The rat's race to the rescue
With their little bumps and their shoves
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
'Cause this rhythm of existence still beats deep in my soul
I can see how the city delights
People jive right into the night
My day begins
Hopeful and bright
At night my sins
Come at a price
I search the sky for refuge
The boulevards for love
The rat's race to the rescue
With their little bumps and the shoves
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
'Cause this rhythm of existence still beats deep in my soul
You gotta keep moving on, you gotta be strong
'Cause when we don't belong, there's something wrong
I spell it out to you
You gotta keep moving on, you gotta be strong
'Cause when we don't belong, there's something wrong
I sing it out to you
You gotta keep moving on, you gotta be strong
'Cause when we don't belong, there's something wrong
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
You gotta keep moving on, you gotta be strong
'Cause when we don't belong, there's something wrong
I spell it out to you
Out to you
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold
The lyrics of Wonderboom's song City of Gold speak about the struggles of searching for authenticity and human connection in a bustling, materialistic city. The opening lines, "It's not me you're talking to, It's not me who's listening to you," suggest a lack of genuine communication and emotional engagement with others. The singer acknowledges that laughter can still bring people together, but there is a deeper yearning for a true sense of belonging and heartfelt connections.
The chorus, "I keep looking for a heart in a city of gold, 'cause this rhythm of existence still beats deep in my soul," encapsulates the central theme of the song. The "city of gold" represents Johannesburg, the economic and cultural heart of South Africa. While the city may offer many opportunities and wealth, it can also be a lonely and isolating place. The singer admits to searching the sky and boulevards for refuge and love, while the "rat's race" of society tramples over others to pursue their own success.
Despite the hardships, the singer remains hopeful and advocates for resilience and strength. They urge listeners to keep moving forward, spelling out the message loud and clear: "You gotta keep moving on, you gotta be strong, 'cause when we don't belong, there's something wrong." This song is a poignant reminder of the paradoxical nature of striving for success and fulfillment in a modern, urban environment.
