Ghosts
Wylder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Find a way
Back home
Where the shade has gathered
Ever since we left here
And the trees have overgrown
I forgot you in a way
Since then
The weeds drew up and covered
Up the doorstep
And the floors have given way
I still pray for rain

In my sleep
A place we meant to keep
I'll lay my head beneath
Somewhere the ghosts still meet
And if I woke too soon
To see them fade from view
Into the afternoon
Somewhere I thought I knew
You'll weather when I'm gone

Dead of night
In time
The shapes all sway together
Where the trees bend
And they gather in the light
Then they all just stepped away
In time
I'll forget whatever may have
Changed here
With the first of the light
The shade has left my sight

In my sleep
A place we meant to keep
I'll lay my head beneath
Somewhere the ghosts still meet
And if I woke too soon
To see them fade from view
Into the afternoon,
Somewhere I thought I knew
You'll weather when I'm gone

In my sleep
A place we meant to keep
I'll lay my head beneath
Somewhere the ghosts still meet
And if I woke too soon
To see them fade from view
Into the afternoon

Somewhere I thought I knew
You'll weather when I'm gone

Overall Meaning

The song "Ghosts" by Wylder is a haunting, reflective ballad with elements of folk and indie rock. At its core, the song is about forgetting someone and returning to a once-familiar place only to find it overgrown and changed, with memories of the past that linger like ghosts. The lyrics evoke a sense of nostalgia, taking the listener on a journey through quiet streets and overgrown fields, where the singer is searching for a way back home.

Throughout the song, the singer describes the landscape of their memories, where the shade has gathered and the floors have given way. They speak of forgetting the person they once knew and the way that the weeds drew up and covered the doorstep. However, in their sleep, they still find solace in the place they meant to keep, where the ghosts of the past still meet.

The chorus, repeated throughout the song, reinforces the idea that time may change things, but memories remain: "In my sleep, a place we meant to keep, I'll lay my head beneath, somewhere the ghosts still meet." The song is a poignant reminder that even as we move forward, our past experiences continue to shape us.

Thanks for the warm reception and we hope you're enjoying the new music. This one's easily our favorite music video we’ve ever done and it and it's the type of storytelling we look forward to showcasing more of on the full upcoming record. Look out for "Golden Age Thinking" on Friday, July 12 (only a few weeks away)!

My brother, his wife and their young grandson have seen an orb while vacationing. They were sitting on the deck of a beach house rental they rented every summer for a week. The deck is about 10 feet high. He descibed it as a clear globe about the size of a beachball. He said it floated down the beach and stopped in front of them long enough for them to get a good look. He said it appeared like there was fire burning inside. It then shot away across the water. He didnt even know what it was. I did some googling for him and discovered it must have been an orb.

There is a naval base nearby and I questioned whether it was some sort of remote control device. He didnt think so. It was also before drones. It also returned on another night.

My mothers ashes were spread in the water of in front of the house and so are the ashes of the previous owner of the house who was a friend of the family.

My brother still swears this story is true.
